Built in the nineteenth century, the Marble Palace is home to some of the most spectacular pieces of art and sculpture from across the world. Raja Rajendra Mullick, under whose patronage the Marble Palace was built, was himself an avid art collector and amassed a spectacular range of paintings and sculpture. The building itself is a splendid synthesis of Bengal style and Neoclassical style of architecture with majestic fluted Corinthian pillars. The mansion holds a treasure trove of art including paintings by some of the greatest Indian and European masters. The piece de resistance are the two Reynolds paintings – Venus and Cupid and The Infant Hercules strangling the Serpent. You can also find the works of Titian, Murillo and John Opie.
