Winter Heritage Odyssey

Unlike any other outdoor experience, Markha Heritage Odyssey is not just about going on an offbeat track. But it would take travelers to places that are still untouched. These heritage sites are situated in the pockets of Markha Valley and the surrounding area and still hold very important cultural significance. Known only among locals, these places can be visited by travelers as well to see the real cultural practices and heritage in its most raw form.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Leh

Stop At: Leh, Leh, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
Once arrived at an altitude of 12000 ft in Leh, one is only expected to rest and keep drinking water. This day is dedicated to getting the travelers acclimatized so that they continue the journey with good fitness.

Day 2: Leh town exploration

Stop At: Shanti Stupa Road 500 steps from Changspa Road, Leh 194101 India
To get more used to with the high altitude, we will take go to a place where we can take a bit of a walk with a magnificent view of an entire Leh town. We will visit Shanti Stupa and spot Stok Kangri, Khardung La and a whole Leh town
Duration: 3 hours

Stop At: Leh Royal Palace, Leh India
After visiting the Shanti Stupa, we will head to see the Leh Royal Palace and know about the kingdom that existed in Leh and the lifestyle of the royal Namgyal dynasty.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Leh Market, Main Bazaar Rd, Leh 194101 India
Post sightseeing, the evening would be spent in the nice calm market of Leh town that has lovely cafes and book stores. We will spend some time here before we head back to the hotel

Day 3: Travel to Skiu via Sumda Chun

Stop At: Temple at Sumda Chun, Sumda Chun village, Leh India
The monastery at Sumda Chun village is our first heritage place we will be visiting on this journey. Located at 12,700 ft, the monastery is one hidden heritage of Ladakh. The place is in its most original form and has unique statues. After visiting this first heritage site, we will head to the first homestay - Skiu village - of this experience.
Duration: 1 hour

Day 4: Heritage trail trek

Stop At: Markha Valley, Leh 194101 India
It is a long day of hiking experience that goes through several hidden heritage sites of Ladakh. The popular Markha Valley trek is offered in a unique way to explore the untouched spots and experience the real culture of Ladakh. The long trek of Suru to Markha Valley is an exploration journey to see lost heritage.
Duration: 8 hours

Day 5: Heritage exploration

Stop At: Markha Valley, Leh 194101 India
After reaching deep inside the beautiful Markha Valley, the day is dedicated to exploring the several heritage sites and spots that have cultural and historic values. Techa Monastery, Markha Monastery, and the ruins of old palace are the places that make the valley rich in herirage.

Day 6: Back to Skiu

Stop At: Markha Valley, Leh 194101 India
After the exploration of the hidden sites in Markha Valley, the trek begins to reach back to Skiu. After a long day of walk alongside a Markha River, the homestay in Skiu would be nothing less than a luxury.

Day 7: Back to Leh via Tsogsty

Stop At: Leh, Leh, Leh District, Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir
After leaving Skiu, we will drive to a village that has its own unique identity. It is a village of copper artisans where the art of making copper artifacts is a traditional practice. A quick stopover at Tsogsty village will be another authentic experience.
Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Leh Market, Main Bazaar Rd, Leh 194101 India
After visiting a copper village, we will drive back to Leh and take a quick stop at another holy site - Pathar Sahib Gurudwara situated on Kargil-Leh highway. On arrival in Leh, the evening we will spend the evening in Leh market to buy some souvenirs and relax in one of those cafes. The tour ends the next day morning.
