Balinese cuisine is synonymous with food of the Gods. The people – who are predominantly Hindu – hold up high the importance of both religion and traditions, which portrays in the preparation of each meal. Beautifully crafted, Balinese feast represents a combination of creative culinary arts and food culture.

Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVING YOGYAKARTA - NIGHT CULLINARY

Stop At: Prambanan Temples, Jl. Raya Temulawak, Prambanan 55514 Indonesia
Near the royal city of Yogyakarta, Prambanan is a magnificent spectacle and an icon of Indonesia’s cultural heritage, see this Prambanan Temple and take wonderful photos; Explore the grounds of the largest Hindu temple and catch a mesmerizing sunset over the temple. Afterward, we heading to Malioboro, the most famous street in Yogyakarta. The street is packed with shops selling curiosities, and street vendors offering souvenirs at affordable prices, so you’re bound to find something of interest in this street. At night, the street comes alive with merchants opening up tents serving all kinds of local cuisine. You need to sit down cross-legged in the tents, which the locals refer to as "lesehan". Enjoy your meal while taking in Malioboro's vibrant nightlife. It's an experience for your lens to shoot. This food walking tour will not only present a variety of distinctive traditional Yogyakarta dishes, ranging from nasi campur to bakmie, and also signature drinks that will warm you up while enjoying the nighttime atmosphere of Yogyakarta.

Day 2: ALL THOSE LOCAL SWEETS & BATIK WORSHOP

Stop At: Sonobudoyo Museum, Jln. Trikora no. 6, 55122 Indonesia
Explore the typical sights and sounds of Yogyakarta. The city calls itself the vanguard of Javanese culture. The venerable Sultan`s palace is the centerpiece. Located tight in the center of town, it is treated with respect by the people of Yogya. Drive by car to the centre of the city passing by Malioboro street – the main street of Yogyakarta. First visit at the local chocolate factory, here you will see the processing of making chocolate and you may have a taste of each kind of product. Then to the local mungbean sweet cake factory-local people call it “Bakpia” where you may have also a taste. We continue our visit to Sonobudoyo Museum that was built in 1935 according to Javanese architecture and designed by Ducth architect. It exhibits weapons, leather and wooden puppets, masks, statues, textiles and old Javanese gamelan instrument. Taman Sari as it is called by the locals, is the former pleasure dome of the Sultans. It features well restored subterranean passage ways, secret chambers and frivolous ponds. Afterward we visit batiks workshop where you will see the complete batiks processing. Yogyakarta is well known as The city of batiks. Note: All museum closed on Monday.

Day 3: ARRIVING BALI: RYTHEM OF THE NIGHT & BEACH CAFE BBQ SEAFOOD LOVER

Stop At: Luhur Batukaru Temple, Jl. Penatahan-Wongayagede, Penebel 82152 Indonesia
Arrival in Bali, depending arrival time, leisure lunch before heading to Uluwatu. Late afternoon time, driving to one of Bali`s holiest and most important temples, Pura Luhur Uluwatu, located in a picturesque place on the southwestern coast of the island, on top of a cliff hanging over the ocean. In addition to a marvelous location, in the evenings in front of the entrance to the temple you can see the Kecak dance performance. During this dance, hundreds of men in black and white sarongs, sitting in a lotus position and raising their hands, say monotonously "ke-cak-ke-cak". Men are sitting around the platform on which the dancers, in the light of the lamp, tell the story of Rama and Sita. The a combination of ancient ritual, dance, drama, sunset and stage on the cliff makes Kecak and Fire Dance one of the most spectacular dance performances. Conclude this leisurely afternoon trip with a sumptuous seafood dinner on the beach of Jimbaran. Ease into a chair as a small dish of salted nuts and crackers comes served as accompaniments to your beer or drink of choice. Birthplace of ikan bakar Jimbaran or ‘grilled snapper à la Jimbaran’ with the essential sambal, these cafes offer selections of red snapper, crab, calamari, prawns and lobster, served with steamed rice and traditional side dishes of spicy plecing kangkung (stir-fried water spinach) and fresh fruit platters for dessert. Use your fingers as part of the experience – a bowl with water and lime slices comes as standard ‘rinse’.

Day 4: FOODIE CYCLING TOUR & EAST CULINARY STREET FOOD ADVENTURE

Stop At: Mount Agung, Indonesia
Paddle up to cycle along Sanur village, explore fascinating Balinese culinary heritage by visiting various legendary local eateries. Feast around the traditional market and sample Sanur’s best-kept secrets exotic food while also learning about the local culture and lifestyle. At the end of the tour, you might be feeling and thinking like a true blood Balinese. Late afternoon time, you will then drive on a scenic road to East Bali, a stop will be made in a beautiful Bat Cave Temple. Nobody knows exactly why, but hundreds of bats choose to reside in a cave behind one of the holiest shrines of Bali. According to a local legend, the bats provide food for a giant snake which is said to live in the cave. In the evening, eat dinner with the locals when you sample the delicacies from the street stalls and night markets in Amlapura town; a food enthusiast’s dream! Start your adventure at a local restaurant before heading out for dinner. Enjoy a home-made cider and local snacks on our balcony as the sun sets behind Mount Agung. Then adventure down to visit the street vendors in the lively culinary scene that is both diverse and confrontingly fascinating. Our adventure is carefully planned to give you an authentic taste of Eastern Balinese local street fare in a safe environment.

Day 5: A DAY IN THE VILLAGE

Stop At: Pangi Beach, Blitar 66163 Indonesia
The trip today is about cooking school which runs in a unique classes themed on “a day in the village”. The class includes an adventure into local areas off the beaten track, to learn how to plant rice or plough with a cow, and cooking on an open fire. Allowing the trekking guide starting the trip by taking you “through the looking glass” up into the village of Pangi, where you will have the opportunity to peek into the daily life of the Balinese. As well as enjoying stunning views over rice fields, ocean and volcanoes you will see Balinese palm wine being made, and bathe your feet in the springs of the valley before wandering through the rice fields back to compound and start your cooking class. After a delicious your own cooked lunch of authentic Balinese flavors, you will leave with fond memories and new skills to experiment with when you get home with your personal recipes and cooking certificate. The rest of the day at leisure.

Day 6: CANDIDASA TO UBUD

Stop At: Ubud, Ubud, Gianyar Regency, Bali
First it is off for a visit to Tenganan, a fascinating place. It is thought to be the home of the original Balinese, the Bali-Aga, who adhere to a secluded life style, different from the other Balinese. Village life plays out in a walled community, separated from the rest of Bali. Up to this day, they are masters of ikat, an extremely difficult method of weaving, producing magnificent results. Grinsing, their sacred cloth, is supposed to magically protect the owners form disease. The Kerta Gosa in Klungkung is a beautifully renovated 17th century hall for the administration of traditional justice by the royal court. The ceiling has some striking examples of classical Balinese paintings, in true wayang style. Make a detour into Bangli and visit the renowned Pura Kehen temple, a great example of classical Balinese temple architecture. End the day in Ubud, Bali's cultural heart. Balinese kings, benevolent to the arts, transformed their former court seat of into a true global village. Ubud shops, galleries and art shops blend traditional crafts with modern design. Visiting European artists, attracted by the lure of an untouched tropical paradise, were encouraged to stay. They gave new impetus to existing, local arts, while creating some exciting new forms in the process. This atmosphere reverbs to this day. A visit to Ubud means indulging in local arts, visiting temples and enjoying the archetypical Balinese surroundings of steep gorges and sculpted rice fields.

Day 7: UBUD HERITAGE FOOD TOUR

Explore the magical Balinese culinary heritage in Ubud through visiting various legendary eateries that are carefully hand-picked. Feast around the traditional market and sample Ubud’s best-kept secrets exotic food and cakes. Prepared to be awed with seven authentic dishes from the Island of Gods, varies from a close to extinction snail sate, lesser known Balinese suckling pig to a highly-acclaimed Balinese chicken rice.
