Highlights Around Mataram

Discover the sights and culture of Lomboks capital city. In the morning set off towards Mataram, the capital of Lombok and the largest town on the island.

The tour starts with a visit to the Lingsar temple compound which dates from 1714. Nestled in lush rice fields this is the holiest temple in Lombok and is used by Hindus as well as Muslims.

Continue to the Narmada Summer Palace, built in 1805 to represent Mount Rinjani and its crater lake, Segara Anakan, when the King of Mataram was no longer able to climb the 3,726 metre high mountain to make offerings. Walk around the temple and take plenty of photos of the beautiful water gardens of this former kings palace.

The final stop is at Karang Bayan village where the inhabitants still follow a traditional way of life. Spend some time wandering through the village to see the simple thatched roofed wooden houses and chat with some of the villagers to learn about their daily life.
