Our gateway to quite possibly the most significant place in modern Europe. Valentia Island is home to Velentia Slate Quarry, which has supplied builders with the slate used in the british houses of parliament, Westminster Abbey and the Paris Opera House as well as my kitchen! Other significant points on the island include prehistoric Tetrapod track over 300 MILLION years old and is also home to the Transatlantic Cable, laid in the 1860's as a means of direct communication between Europe and the Americas
