Best of Naples Full-day Food Tour with Guided City Sightseeing and Wine Tasting

Starting from Mater Dei, in the Sanita’ district, with your guide you will enter into the heart one of the main areas of Naples. You will visit the Cimitero delle Fontanelle, pass by the XVII century buildings of the aristocratic families of Naples, to end into the Borgo dei Vergini, one of the main local markets, next to the Poppella’s shop, where you will try the fiocco di neve. Go ahead and walk into the narrow streets of the historical centre, where you can enjoy fresh buffalo mozzarella, pasta dishes, visit a limoncello factory and more. Your guide will lead you onto  the decumani and cardini of the Greek-Roman urbem, passing on via dei Tribunali, piazza San Domenico, piazza del Gesu’ Nuovo, piazzetta Nilo and Spaccanapoli. Exit the historical centre and turn on via Toledo to reach piazza del Plebiscito, to enjoy a lovely coffee and a traditional pastry – from the baba’ to the sfogliatella, the cakes window will amaze your eyes.

Be welcomed by your guide at the exit of the metro station MATER DEI and enter the heart of the Sanita’ district. Only few steps away from the historical centre, this area of Naples is less crowded, but still interesting. Settled at the Vomero hill slopes, it was first supposed to be a residential area for the aristocracy, it has then become a popular district, inhabited by locals. One of the pearls of the Sanita’ is the famous Cimitero delle Fontanelle, the tunnel that collects skulls and bones, and that gave birth to the Capuzzelle superstition. From the Sanita’ you can easily reach the historical centre, but first stop at Poppella’s to have a fiocco di neve – a small, sweet bun with an incredible, creamy filling!

Move ahead to the heart of Naples, and listen to the history and legends of the city, enter the churches, admire the lava and tufo stones of the buildings facades, and be ready to try some of the traditional dishes of the Neapolitan tradition: buffalo mozzarella, ragu’, pasta e patate con la provola (pasta with potatoes and provola cheese), limoncello and more. You will walk on the main streets of the core of Naples - via dei tribunal and Spaccanapoli – passing by the highlight of the historical centre: the Holy Stone church, San Gregorio Armeno, piazzetta Nilo, San Domenico Maggiore, piazza del Gesu’ Nuovo – facing two of the oldest and most important churches of Naples: Santa Chiara in old, Italian Gothic style, and Gesu’ Nuovo, whose black, diamond shaped façade legend will intrigue you.

Exit the historical centre and turn on via Toledo, the commercial street, full of shops and lights, that will lead you to piazza del Plebiscito, around which the Royal Palace and the Basilica di San Francesco di Paola raise. Stop at the Caffe’ Gambrinus to enjoy a coffee and let the pastry window amaze you.
