Caserta - Naples 2019
The name Caserta derives from the Latin Casa Irta, a toponym deriving from the circumstance that the ancient urban center (the current Casertavecchia) stood, in the Middle Ages and up to the XVIII century, in an elevated position with respect to the surrounding plain. The city of Caserta has ancient and uncertain origins; the area on which the palace was built is part of a natural territory of archaeological importance where Etruscans, Samnites and Romans have left evidence of their presence. Naples is one of the most ancient cities of the West and, as such, very little is known about the historical events that characterized its origin. But like all the cities of antiquity (Babylon, Troy, Rome), which boast mythological traditions and legends about its origin, even the birth of Naples is hidden by the evocative veil of myth and legend.
