If the San Marco district is the heart of Venice, Piazza San Marco is certainly the pulsating center. Described as "the most beautiful square in the world", this square has always been the center of Venetian life, with its famous cafes and the atmosphere enlivened by the music.

The Basilica of San Marco, a Byzantine Venetian style architectural jewel, is located next to the Doge’s Palace and was used as the Doge's chapel, but it is also the mausoleum of the patron saint, whose life is narrated in the wall decorations of the golden mosaics.

Through narrow streets, small canals and ancient bridges, you will discover hidden places just a short walk from Piazza San Marco:

Meeting point at Saint Giacometo Church. Start of walking tour in Rialto Market area to visit places where Venetian merchants sold their products (goods, food, fish, jewels, rugs, clothes, spices, etc.). Let's stop in the Fondaco dei Tedeschi where visit the splendid rooftop and admire the best view on Venice (when possible). Walking towards Accademia Bridge admiring San Salvador Church with the Titian masterpiece "the Assomption", painted in XVI century. Let's cross Campo San Luca, quickly stop in a typical Venetian Bar to taste Sprizz (typical cocktail) or a Bellini and a chicheto (small tapas garnished with meat or fish).
