Etna Trekking to the Bove Valley and Lava Tube

We will find ourselves on the northern slope of Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe and Unesco heritage since 2013. We will walk along one of the most fascinating and evocative paths, through woods and lava flows starting from an altitude of 1741m and we will arrive at an altitude of about 2100 where we will admire the wonderful Valle del Bove.

Walking on the slope of the Volcano

Duration: 5 hours

Stop At: Grotta di Serracozzo, Milo, Sicily Italy

During our journey we will explore with the help of torches and helmets, provided by me, one of the most fascinating caves of Etna at an altitude of 1851 m, the Serracozzo cave formed during the 1971 eruption.

Duration: 45 minutes

Stop At: Valle Del Bove, 95019 Zafferana Etnea, Sicily Italy

Our photo walk starts from the square of the Citelli refuge, the historic refuge built on an ancient crater at an altitude of 1740 m. The first section of the route will allow us to capture the endemic species of the area, including the characteristic birch aetnensis.
As the altitude increases, the vegetation changes and the landscape becomes more and more unique until the majestic and endless lunar landscape of the Valle del Bove opens up to the lens of our camera. In this valley you can still admire today, what remains of the ancient eruptive centers dated thousands and thousands of years ago, the lava flows that have alternated over the centuries. Moreover, it is the panoramic point par excellence for photographing the summit craters and with a good dose of luck, perhaps, even some small explosive activity.
Interesting photographic opportunities during our journey: the blue of the Ionian coast, the dazzling yellow of the broom (in summer) in contrast with the shimmering black of the volcanic sand, the lively violet of the saponaria (in summer), the white of the trunks of the birches and of beech trees. During our journey we will explore with the help of torches and helmets, provided by me, one of the most fascinating caves of Etna at an altitude of 1851 m, the Serracozzo cave formed during the 1971 eruption.
