This wide area, established as a regional park in 1988, connects the edges of Rome city centre to Colli Albani, a group of volcanic hills on the South. The axis of the park is represented by the ancient path of Via Appia, who connected Rome to Brindisi, a major harbor in Southern Italy, since the 3rd century B.C.. The park includes some outstanding Roman remains, such as the Villa dei Quintili, the Tombs of Via Latina and the Park of Aqueducts.

This small village in the hillside of Rome, facing Lake Albano (an ancient volcanic basin), is especially known for being linked to the Vatican State.
