Full day from Rome to Viterbo and Civita di Bagnoreggio
Travel to discover two jewels of northern Lazio in comfort and style with a private driver and a Mercedes vehicle, you will enjoy a unique experience.
After leaving Rome, you can admire the splendid views of the Roman countryside from the splendid town of Civita di Bagnoregio, one of the most special places in northern Lazio. Civita di Bagnoregio is located between Lake Bolsena to the west and the Tiber valley to the east, in the spectacular valley of the gullies. The village is one of the most beautiful villages in Italy and is famous for being called "The city that dies". Inhabited by only sixteen people and situated in an isolated position, Civita can only be reached via a pedestrian bridge in reinforced concrete built in 1965 that can only be covered on foot, enjoying a breathtaking view. The cause of its isolation is the progressive erosion of the hill and the surrounding valley, which gave birth to the typical forms of the gullies, clearly visible from different points of the village. Inside the town it is possible to visit different commercial activities, buy typical products, admire the particular urban structure, visit the church of San Donato, which overlooks the main square and which houses the S.S. Wooden crucifix, Palazzo Alemanni, site of the Geological Museum and Landslides, the Bishop's Palace, a mill of the sixteenth century, the remains of the birthplace of St. Bonaventure and the door of Santa Maria.
After the visit of Civita free time for lunch; your driver will advise you, if you wish, where to eat typical products in a cozy place according to your needs.
In the afternoon transfer to Viterbo, city of the Popes, where it will be possible to take a pleasant walk in the historic center still rich in palaces and medieval churches.
Starting from Piazza del Plebiscito it will be possible to admire the Palazzo dei Priori of the XIII century and the imposing clock tower, symbol of the city. Continuing towards Palazzo dei Papi, one comes across Palazzo Farnese and further on, the Cathedral of San Lorenzo from the Roman period and the adjacent Palazzo dei Papi, which houses the Museum of Sacred Art. Finally you can visit the Church of S. Maria Nuova and the Sanctuary of Santa Rosa crossing the beautiful and beautifully preserved medieval quarter of San Pellegrino.
