Stop At: Galleria Borghese, Piazzale del Museo Borghese 5, 00197 Rome Italy

With this 2-hour visit of the Galleria Borghese you will be able to learn about one of the most significant places in the history of Roman collecting. The guided tour will take you to know the works, which Cardinal Scipione Borghese, nephew of Pope Paul V, picked up with passionate, almost obsessive collecting. The Villa, built to bring together only the cardinal's archeological pieces, was enriched over the centuries by works by extraordinary artists such as Bernini, Caravaggio, Canova, who now occupy the first floor of the Villa. On the second floor is the art gallery which houses works by Raphael, Botticelli, Correggio, Domenichino, Tiziano and others. At the Borghese Gallery you can then admire, all in one room, six extraordinary paintings by Caravaggio, the first prodigious sculptures and until the acquisition by Cardinal Scipione, sometimes unscrupulously moved to the limit of legality. The Borghese family favored the birth of successful careers like Bernini's. Today the statues of Bernini alla Borghese are symbols of the Villa itself and of the explosion of the Roman Baroque. This guided tour will allow you to understand the history of seventeenth-century Rome and the family that occupied the political scene in Rome, thanks to the rise to Bernini's papal throne and the seductive portrait of Paolina Borghese, which Antonio Canova produced in a refined sculpture as Venus Winner. Centuries of art history will unfold before your eyes through the events of the collection and the Borghese family, which in the nineteenth century came to be related to Napoleon Bonaparte. Crossing the halls of the Villa with our guide you will make a trip to the Rome of the seventeenth century: in front of each work of refined beauty, you will be able to recreate the atmosphere that saw the birth of the work, the history of the client, the destiny of the work over.
