Meet your guide at the main entrance of the Sforza Castle, start by visiting the castle and walking along the marvellous courtyards and gardens. Inside the castle you can admire at one of the examples of Michelangelo’s talent, the Pietà Rondanini. The next stop will be the Church of San Maurizio, often referred to as the “Milanese Sistine Chapel” for its frescoes painted by the students of Leonardo. The last stop will be the church of Santa Maria presso San Satiro, a true work of art of the genius Bramante. The unique aspect of this church is the optical illusion of the central nave that seems larger than what it truly is. The Sforza Castle is a marvellous castle built in the 15th century by the Duke of Milan for the Sforza family as their residence. Today it is home to many art galleries and museums and considered an important landmark you shouldn’t miss in Milan.

Stop At: Museo Pieta Rondanini, Piazza Castello Castello Sforzesco, 20100 Milan Italy

The Pietà Rondanini Museum contains one of the last masterpieces created by Michelangelo. The sculpture represents the Virgin Mary mourning the death of Jesus Christ. The two elongated figures remind more of the gothic style than the renaissance style, used usually by the genius of Michelangelo.

Stop At: Chiesa di San Maurizio al Monastero Maggiore, Corso Magenta 15, 20123 Milan Italy

The San Maurizio church might seem sober from the outside, yet once inside you will remain astonished by the beautiful frescoes, painted by the students of Leonardo. For this reason it is often referred to as the “Milanese Sistine Chapel”.

The church of Santa Maria in Milan is an Italian Renaissance structure famous for the false apse, an optical illusion of the genius of Bramante. The choir, due to the presence of a street behind the church, had to be replaced with a painted perspective. This technique is called trompe-l’œil, french for “deceive the eye”, and is one of the first example in history of art.
