Pompeii Ancient city of Campania, located at the mouth of the river Sarno, a few kilometers south of Mount Vesuvius, between Ercolano and Stabia. It was founded around 600 BC. from the osciis and subsequently conquered by the Samnites (5th century BC); involved in the Samnite wars (343-290 BC), later in the Second Punic War (218-201 BC)

Amalfi: Its foundation is traced back to the Romans (its emblem bears the inscription Descendit ex patribus romanorum). Starting from the ninth century, first (in chronological order) among the maritime republics, rivaled with Pisa, Venice and Genoa for the control of the Mediterranean Sea. The Maritime Code of Amalfi, better known as the Tavole amalfitane, had a great influence until the seventeenth century. Amalfi reached its maximum splendor in the eleventh century

Positano, in Roman times was a holiday resort as evidenced by the discovery of a villa below the church of Santa Maria Assunta. Access to the villa was by sea.
