Departure from Largo Plebiscito, walk along Via Garibaldi, ancient Via dei Mercanti, until reaching Piazza Garibaldi, a place steeped in history, which preserves the remains of different eras.

Visit of the Castle of Charles V, part of the Spanish fortification system and located on one of the oldest areas of the old city of Monopoli.

Walking along the seafront you will admire the imposing bastions and the panoramic view of the Porta Vecchia with its sixteenth-century fortified walls.

We will visit the Basilica of Maria SS. della Madia with its sumptuous interiors, built on a pre-existing Romanesque church, to which the legend of the 1117 Icon of the Madonna della Madia is linked.

Outside the ruins of the old Norman castle and arrival in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, the heart of the new city of Monopoli.

Meet your guide in Largo Plebiscito Square, then we´ll walk through Via Garibaldi, the ancient Merchants street, and reach Piazza Garibaldi, a place soaked in history that has preserved remains of different ages.

We´ll continue to the Charles V Castle, that is a part of the old city of Monopoli old town.

We admire the massive bastions walking along the waterfront promenade and have a fantastic view of the Porta Vecchia and the sixteenth-century city walls.

Then we visited the Cathedral with its Baroque decorations, built on a preexisting Romanesque church, that is connected with the legend of Our Lady of the Madia icon’s landing.

Norman Castle and Vittorio Emanuele II Square, which is the heart of the modern part of Monopoli.
