Visit to the Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery

From 2018, after a long period of closure, the Tosio Martinengo Art Gallery has reopened the doors to the public, restored and renewed. In his new guise he reconciles the testimonies of the architectural and pictorial past with new expositive and conservative conceptions. The result is surprisingly contemporary. Palazzo Martinengo da Barco, the historic seat of the Pinacoteca, built in the sixteenth century, was adapted to a new exhibition itinerary of 21 rooms: large tapestries and colored velvets welcome visitors in a chromatic explosion, all in full respect of the architectural structure of the building . Among the names that make the Pinacoteca shine there are Raphael, Lotto, Ceruti, Hayez, Thorvaldsen, Pelagi, Cannella and Canova, but also artists from Brescia such as Foppa, Savoldo, Romanino, Moretto, Cifrondi and Ceruti. In addition to the paintings, the Pinacoteca houses the decorative arts of the time: goldsmith's objects, ivories, enamels, medals, glasses, plaques.

Among the names that make the Pinacoteca shine, there are Raphael, Lotto, Ceruti, Hayez, Thorvaldsen, Pelagi, Cannella and Canova: a rich and varied art collection of paintings of immense value. The heart of the Pinacoteca is constituted by the Renaissance painting of Brescia: Foppa, Savoldo, Romanino and Moretto are some of the undisputed protagonists of this current. Even the so-called "painters of reality", Cifrondi and Ceruti, find their own space within the museum.
In addition to the paintings, the Pinacoteca houses the decorative arts of the time: goldsmith's objects, ivories, enamels, medals, glasses, plaques. Unlike the previous set-ups, it was decided to enlarge the chronological framework until the first half of the nineteenth century, with the great commissions of Paolo Tosio, Leonardo Martinengo da Barco and Camillo Brozzoni.
