Itinerary
Enjoy the tea ceremony at a 1000-year-old tea room of the Daisho-in temple. This tour will take about 1 hour. English speaking guide is available.
Meet at the reception of the Daisho-in temple. Please arrive at assembly point 15 min. before the start time. Then, move to the tea room. The tea room is very small, only 3 tatami mats in size and with no lights as it was built in accordance with a formal planning and construction. Arrangements of rooms and design, building materials have been kept from the time it was first built, so it must be a valuable experience to see and sit in the tea room.
First, the instructor will tell you the manners of the tea ceremony, such as how to enter the tea room and how to take a seat. Second, you will have Japanese sweets (wagashi). Then, watch the instructor preparing tea and you will have it. The instructor will tell you how to drink and handle your tea bowl. You may have a chat with the instructor and learn about hanging scrolls and tea tools.
