We'll visit Tokyo Station to see the Shinkansen bullet trains. We'll look at representative the Shinkansen bound for six different directions: Tokaido-Sanyo Shinkansen, Tohoku-Hokkaido Shinkansen, Akita Shinkansen, Yamagata Shinkansen, Joetsu Shinkansen, and Hokuriku Shinkansen.

You must see the combination vehicle such as green “HAYABUSA” and red “KOMACHI” which are very popular among not only Japanese kids, but also adults. The connection and separation of the two Shinkansen lines is done at Tohoku stations. I will show you with a tablet movie.

We'll also get the chance to watch the 7-Minute Miracle, the term used to describe the super-speedy teams of cleaners that keep the interiors of JR East Shinkansen bullet trains spick and span for the next group of passengers. In 2016, Harvard Business School students even began to study the 7-Minute Miracle bullet train cleaners as part of their regular curriculum.

Itinerary

Stop At: JR East Travel Service Center - Tokyo Station, 1-9-1 Marunouchi Tokyo Station Marunouchi North Entrance, Marunouchi, Chiyoda 100-0005 Tokyo Prefecture

1. At Tokyo Station, a bench near the entrance to shinkansen area

→ a briefing about all shinkansen routes and destinations (15 min)

2. While heading to 20～23 platforms, explanations on each shinkansen and watching a cleaning process 'a 7-minute miracle' (50 min.) 3. Transfer to 14～19 platforms and a lecture about Tokaido and Sanyo shinkansens (10 min.) 4. We will find an opportune moment to exit from the Yaesu gate.​ ​​
