The ancient city of Petra is one of Jordans national treasures and by far its best known tourist attraction. Petra is the legacy of the Nabateans, an industrious Arab people who settled in southern Jordan more than 2,000 years ago. Admired then for its refined culture, massive architecture and ingenious complex of dams and water channels, Petra is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site
The site opens at 6am and you can enter any time (free entry fees if you have the Jordan Pass). You will walk with you through the winding Siq to the famous Treasury, past the Street of facades and rock cut theatre. Then you have free time to perhaps climb up to the High Place of Sacrifice, or visit the Royal Tombs. If you have enough energy then climb the 800 steps to the Monastery.
