Itinerary

Day 1: Trip from Almaty to Merke

Pass By: Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan
Upon arrival in Almaty, a local guide will meet you and drive 250 km from the city to the School of Nomads near Merke village. The road is in the good condituion it will take aproximatly 3h. You will settle in the house of a local family that goes hunting with eagles and does cattle breeding for many generations. You will enjoy a nice food and build your first yurt. The locals will teach you how to build a yurt, explain all the components of this nomadic house and tell you the philosophy behind it. You will enjoy the dinner with a family in the yurt eating traditional meal beshbarmak and listening to traditional Kazakh songs.

Day 2: Horse riding

Day 2: Horse riding, herding cattle

After breakfast, you will learn how to ride horses, the techniques of riding it, the history behind horses and nomads, the importance of this animal in the lives of the Kazakhs and different types of horses. The second half of the day you will go to the nearby mountains and try herding the cattle as a true nomad. You can also go hiking in the mountains and then go back to the school for a rest.

Day 3: Hunting with eagle

Day 3: Archery, hunting with eagles

After breakfast, you will learn the art of archery, practice and try the archery on the horse. The second half of the day you will learn hunting with eagles, learn about different types of carnivore birds and the process of training eagles

Day 4: Hiking to the Tyan'-Shan' mountains

We will go to the expedition and visit honet and and nomad familiy in the valey of mountains. On the road we will sea mountain goat, birds and a lot of spring water.

Day 5: Graduation ceremony

After breakfast, you will prepare for the final exam on the nomadic skills and be awarded a certificate for participating in the training. After the graduation ceremony and a celebratory dinner, you will go back to Almaty city.
