Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi/Samburu National Reserve

Stop At: Samburu National Reserve, Nairobi Kenya
After breakfast, your safari adventure will begin as you depart by road driving across the equator to the Northern Hemisphere, and onwards to the semi-arid region of the Samburu Game Reserve. The name Samburu is of Maasai origin, a ‘samburr’ is a traditional leather bag the Masai use for carrying honey and milk. This region is characterized by vast, open landscapes, dried riverbeds (depending on the season of the year) and its red volcanic soil. Rock outcroppings contrast against the dense woodland vegetation along the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, the river that gives life to the reserve. The area is home to the Samburu tribe, who are ‘cousins’ to the Maasai people with their own distinct cultural traditions. Arrive at the camp or lodge in time for lunch, followed by some leisure hours for a siesta or swim before you depart for an afternoon game viewing drive, and return back to the camp or lodge before sunset.

Day 2: Explore Samburu Sopa Lodge

Stop At: Samburu National Reserve, Nairobi Kenya
This full day in the Samburu Game Reserve will be spent searching for the big five, the Samburu five and observing the vast unspoiled scenery during morning and afternoon game viewing Drives. The Park is plentiful with crocodiles that bask on muddy riverbanks and velvet monkeys that frolic in the late afternoon sun. Samburu is renowned for its rare species of fauna known as the ‘Samburu five. These five particular animals are usually only found north of the equator – the long necked gerenuk, the reticulated giraffe which is characterized by its liver-colored geometric patches defined by narrow white lines, the Grevy’s zebra which is smaller than the common zebra and looks more like a horse, the beisa oryx with black horizontal stripe running across its lower flank and the Somali ostrich males which have blue-grey necks and thighs. A camel-back safari is a specialty in Samburu, as well as a cultural visit to the Samburu people who depend on their cattle, goat, sheep and donkey can be arranged.

Day 3: Samburu National Reserve/Sweetwaters

Stop At: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Nanyuki Private Bag, 10400 Kenya
After breakfast, depart to Sweetwaters (Ol pejeta conservation Area). The Ol Pejeta Conservancy with its huge ranch was once a private property of the famed Saudi Arabian multi-millionaire, Adnan Kashoggi. We will then visit the Chimpanzee Sanctuary, a charming haven established by the Jane Goodall Institute to provide sanctuary to orphaned chimps. This is the only place in Kenya where this endangered and remarkably intelligent species can be found. The same sanctuary also offers refuge to over 40 species of black rhinos.

Day 4: Explore Sweetwaters

Stop At: Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Nanyuki Private Bag, 10400 Kenya
Another full Day Olpejeta Conservancy. We will have two extensive game drives exploring the exotic Sweetwaters Sanctuary. As our camp overlooks one of the best waterholes in the area, this will give us a good view of the wild life such as elephants, giraffes and myriad plains game among others. Sweetwaters boasts of excellent game viewing experience with the highest ratio of game to area among any other parks or reserves in Kenya.

Day 5: Sweetwaters/Lake Naivasha

Stop At: Lake Naivasha, Naivasha Road Nakuru County Kenya
After breakfast game leave for Lake Naivasha. You will arrive in time for lunch. Later in the afternoon in exploration of Naivasha with various activities at your cost. You can do any of the activities below but at your extra cost. Activity 1: Boat Ride Experience on a boat ride on the calm waters of Naivasha. Afternoon wind and storms can cause the Lake to become suddenly rough and produce high waves. For this reason, the local Masai christened the lake Nai'posha meaning ''rough water'', which the British later misspelled as Naivasha. Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow barked Acacia Xanthophlea, known as the yellow fever tree. These forests abound with bird life, and Naivasha is known as a world class birding. The waters of the lake draw a great range of game to these shores. Giraffes wander among the acacia, Buffalo wallow in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the Lakes large hippo population sleeps the day out in the shallows. The region surrounding the Lake is well worth exploring.After breakfast game leave for Lake Naivasha. You will arrive in time for lunch. Day 6: Lake naivasha/Masai Mara National Reserve

Stop At: Maasai Mara National Reserve, Narok 00100 Kenya
After breakfast, proceed to Maasai mara game reserve via Narok town then enter the Maasai Mara road and drive across the plains to the camp/lodge. Check in at the camp for lunch. The meals are buffet, enjoyed either in the dining or under the shade of indigenous trees. The culinary affair is indeed one to delight the senses, have a few minutes relaxing and enjoying the surrounding before you depart for an afternoon game drives. The big five is an experience you cannot afford to miss among other animals.

Day 7: Explore Masai Mara National Reserve

Stop At: Maasai Mara National Reserve, Narok 00100 Kenya
After breakfast, a full day of game viewing with picnic lunch, exploration this part of the Northern Serengeti Ecosystem where the great wildebeest migration takes place at the beginning of August. Months before the actual migration the herds ‘assemble’ in Serengeti in readiness for the crossing into Masai Mara. The plain is literally covered with these animals. Grunts and other animal sounds are heard, and territorial fights are commonplace. The migration, now declared the Seventh Wonder of the World takes place from end July to September. Africa has a long history of capturing the imagination of travelers, a continent of dramatic contrasts that gives you an unforgettable and remarkable experience whether it’s in an amazement of watching thousands of wild beasts struggling across a rushing river that is littered with crocodiles waiting for their prey, makes the world’s premier wildlife spectacle. The afternoon is spent on a game drive in search of the black manned lions which the park is famous. Lion making a kill can be witnessed in the late afternoon or a leopard in a tree enjoying the meal he has dragged up to avoid disturbance and detection.

Day 8: Masai Mara National Reserve/Amboseli National Park

Stop At: Amboseli National Park, Kenya
After breakfast leave Masai Mara with en route Lunch at Nairobi then drive to Amboseli the home of large herds of elephants among other wildlife. There is an advantage to this because one has to drive inside a park to be rewarded with the sight of many different species of animals. Amboseli National Park is reached in the afternoon, for lunch; embark on an afternoon game viewing in the park at the foot of Africa’s highest mountain, Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft.). Ideal photography opportunities with Mount Kilimanjaro highest mountain in Africa providing a beautiful back drop.

Day 9: Explore Amboseli National Park

Stop At: Amboseli National Park, Kenya
Early morning game drive can be taken in Amboseli when Mt. Kilimanjaro usually appears from its mantle of clouds, morning and afternoon game viewing in Amboseli, the game Proceeds to the area of Lake Amboseli, which is a wide salt pan, consisting of permanent swamps. This area has much game, large and small, high concentration of Elephant, rhino, buffalo, Burchell’s zebra, eland, Masai giraffe and small species of the antelope family, the common water buck, klipspringer, Grant’s gazelle, impala, topi, and the diminutive duiker among others.

Day 10: Amboseli National Park/Tsavo West National Park

Stop At: Tsavo West National Park, Tsavo, Kenya
After breakfast, depart to Tsavo west National Park. You will arrive with Game en-route proceeding to the lodge. Tsavo West is a beautiful, rugged wilderness. The savannah ecosystem comprises of open grasslands, scrublands, and Acacia woodlands, belts of riverine vegetation and rocky ridges including the Poacher's Lookout where visitors can see the teeming herds in the plains below. Tsavo West offers some of the most magnificent game viewing in the world and attractions include elephant, rhino, Hippos, lions, cheetah, leopards, Buffalos, diverse plant and bird species .It also includes visit to the Mzima Springs. Check in and have lunch then later proceed with your game drives till late in the evening.

The extensive diverse habitats offer ideal area to search for pride of Lions, Buffaloes, Cheetahs, Giraffe, Zebras, Hippos and Wildebeests. Mzima Spring, underground water seepage from Chyulu hills is a good place to watch the Hippos. There is also a wealth and diversity of birds’ species.
