4-Day Expedition The Wild Side Of Kenya through a safari to Meru National Park

Meru is a superb Big Five destination. Extending over 870-square-kilometres of lush well-watered savannah east of Mount Kenya, Meru National Park is transitional to the moist central highlands and arid northern plains of Kenya. Wildlife, though plentiful, can be quite elusive, and the park is most notable perhaps for its untrammelled wilderness feel. Nevertheless, it is a good place to see localised large mammals associated with the arid north, including the handsome reticulated giraffe, striking Beisa oryx, shy lesser kudu and stretch-necked gerenuk antelope. The Big Five are all present too: with large herds of buffalo being a feature of the marshes, while more than 50 black and white rhinos have been introduced into a large Rhino Santuary inside the park since 2005.

Weather permitting we visit Tana River, the Headquarters for Kora National Park where George Adamson and Joy of The Born Free movie fame and Elsa spent their lives. Adamson falls and crocodiles. 

Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi - Meru National Park

Our representative will provide a safari briefing before you depart for Meru National Park. Meru National Park safari is ideal for guests looking for something off the-beaten-track and is well known for its bird life, riverine and forest as well as the dry arid species. Depart Nairobi in the Morning at 0800 Hours and drive to north to Meru National Park. We shall make a brief stop at the Equator. We arrive in time for lunch, check-in to our rooms then later relax before the evening game drive. Later return for dinner and overnight at Ikweta Safari Camp or similar.

Day 2: Explore Meru National Park

We spend a full day in the Meru National Park on morning and afternoon game drive. Meru wildlife includes large herds of Buffalo, Bushbuck, Duiker, Eland, Elephant, Gazelle, Genet, Giraffe, Hartebeest, Impala, Kudu, Waterbuck and Gravy Zebra. Expect to see Baboons, Hyena, Jackal, Kudu, Lion, Mongoose, Oryx, Oribi, Vervet Monkeys and Warthog. You may see Wild dog, Bush baby, Caracal, Cheetah, Civet, Dik-dik, Leopard, Otter, Bush pig, Porcupine, Black and White Rhino. The rivers are abound with Hippo and Crocodile. Bird life includes Peter’s fin foot which inhabits the Murera and Ura Rivers, the Pel’s Fishing Owl, Kingfishers, Rollers, Bee-eaters, Starlings and numerous Weavers. Dinner and overnight stay at Ikweta Safari Camp.

Day 3: Meru and Kora National Park

Today we wake up early for breakfast and leave for Kora National Park accessible through Meru National Park. We shall drive past Bwatherongi River and finally to Kora National Park gate next next to River Tana Bridge. Once here we shall enjoy the beautiful scenery of River Tana and learn more about George Adamson. We shall then begin our journey back to Meru National Park with game viewing en route. We shall have our picnic lunch at Bwatherongi Campsite before proceeding with game viewing experience towards the gate. We shall exit and return to the camp later in the afternoon and spend the rest of the day relaxing in our rooms or cooling at the outdoors swimming pool at the hotel. Dinner and overnight will be at Ikweta Safari camp or similar.

Day 4: Meru - Nairobi
