This park is 314 kms from Nairobi. To get there by air is 45 minutes and by road 5 hours. Shaba game reserve is a semi desert with a rugged hilly terrain, with great rocky kopjes (small isolated hills) and lots of springs supporting the abundant wildlife. This place is teeming with klipspringer and hyrax who love the hills. The specialties that can only be found in this part of the world are the Grevy's zebra, the Somali ostrich, generuk and the reticulated giraffe .Plenty of lion and herds of elephants are also found here. Shaba Game Reserve was made famous by the late Joy Adamson and her lioness Elsa which and is often referred to as the Born free country.

Samburu & Mt. Kenya Trails

A scenery & wildlife safari tour stopping at the Mt. Kenya and the Samburu game reserve in 4 days/3 nights.

Tour provides opportunities to view the snow -capped  peaks of Mount Kenya and you shall marvel at the diversity of Kenya's climate zones and spot unique animal species at Samburu including Grevys Zebra, Reticulated giraffe, Oryx, Somali ostrich, Gerenuk including the culture of the Samburu community. Safari departs Nairobi and proceeds via the central highlands of Kenya with subsistence , pineapple, coffee and tea plantations along the route with transport and game drives in our custom designed open top  safari minivan or Option of a 4 x 4 land cruiser jeep at an extra cost.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Nairobi - Samburu National Reserve (D)

Early morning breakfast at your hotel; meet your driver guide at your hotel reception (or met at the airport if arriving in the morning) who will brief you on your entire safari and answer any question you may have. Later depart for the drive to Samburu National Reserve passing through Kikuyu escarpments/land where mostly you will see large scale farming like coffee, tea, pineapple among other on your way. Lunch will be at Nanyuki town arriving Samburu in time for afternoon game drives en route to Ashnil Samburu lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Samburu National Reserve (B, L, D)

Spend full day on game drive with all meals and overnight at your lodge. Note you can also opt to have an early morning game drives with picnic breakfast or have any early breakfast and depart with picnic lunch thus having the entire day for game drives returning back at the lodge before dark falls. You can also opt to visit Samburu village to learn about their culture (optional at USD$20). Dinner and overnight at Ashnil Samburu lodge 

Day 3: Samburu - Mt. Kenya National Park (B, D)

Early morning game drives in search of more game in the vast samburu returning back in time for breakfast. After breakfast, depart for the drive to Mt. Kenya National park arriving in time for lunch at Serena Mountain lodge. Afternoon at leisure enjoying game viewing from the lodge with dinner and overnight at Serena Mountain. 

Day 4: Mt. Kenya National Park - Nairobi (B)

Morning at leisure to enjoy the nice lodge set up overlooking the Mt. Kenya where you will see its peak if not covered by snow. After breakfast drive back to Nairobi, arriving early in the afternoon with a drop off in your city hotel/airport
