Private Luang Prabang City Tour & Joint in Kuang Si Waterfalls Tour

A full day tour in Luang Prabang. In the morning we visit major highlights of Luang Prabang Heritage area with an experienced local guides. After lunch break in Ock Pop Tok Living Craft Center, we join in a superb afternoon excursion to Kuang Si waterfalls.

The national museums and temples are not well curated. It should be better to go through with a guide. Otherwise, you will just be looking at object without really knowing their importance or origin. All our guides have experienced over 10 years in Luang Prabang tourism industry. Feel free to ask as many as possible.

City tour start at 8:30 (or 5:30 if you choose to participate in the Alms giving ceremony), Lunch break at Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Center (12:00-2:00), Kuang Si Falls (2:30-5:00), Return to the city at 5:30-6:00

Itinerary

Stop At: Alms Giving Ceremony, Th Sisavangvong (main road to town), Luang Prabang 0600 Laos

Our guide will pick you up from your accommodation in the early morning at about 5:30 am and give you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of Alms (ubiquitous sticky rice) from the faithful residents. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the procession.

Stop At: The Morning Market, Alleys between Main St. (Sisavangvong Rd.) and Mekong River, Luang Prabang 0600 Laos

Afterward we visit Luang Prabang morning market. The market lining a couple of quiet streets near the Royal Palace, starts early and is over by mid-morning. It sets up along a couple of side-streets next to one of the city’s many Wats. A butcher and some of the more touristy stalls have actual tables for their wares. But most of the vendors, selling anything from rice to fresh vegetables to steamed fish to frogs, and anything else that might be the day’s catch, just set up on the ground.

After an early stroll through the Morning Market, we take a car back to the hotel for breakfast at around 7 am

Stop At: Old Quarter Luang Prabang, Luang Prabang 0600 Laos

Old quarter setting on a peninsula at the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers, encircled by verdant mountains, offers a natural beauty that is complemented by the craftsmanship of Louangphrabang’s palaces, temples, and traditional houses. Immerse yourself in the culture and architecture of the old town as you walk with your tour guide in this morning tour.

Stop At: Mount Phousi, Sackarin road, Luangprabang, Luang Prabang 0600 Laos

After hotel pickup at 8:30, we start with a visit to Mount Phousi that is a 100 m high hill in the centre of the old town, located on the peninsula between the Mekong and Nam Khan rivers. As the highest point in town, it boasts the town’s famous and favorite panoramic view. On the summit, the shiny golden stupa of Wat Chom Si sits firmly and greets visitors to the mountain. It was built in 1804 during the reign of King Anourouth and has become a symbol of Luang Prabang’s spiritual significance. (Entrance fee 20,000 kip)

Stop At: Riverview Park, Luang Prabang Laos

We climb down Phousi Hill and take a car to the Riverview park located in the tip of Luang Prabang peninsula. The juncture where the two rivers meet is believed by locals to be home to two notable nagas (a semi-divine race of half-human half-serpent beings, originally from Sanskrit language) who were the guardians of the rivers. We enjoy view from little lovely park and then afterwards start walking to the town center.

Stop At: Wat Xieng Thong, Luang Prabang Laos

Wat Xieng Thong is one of the most important of Lao monasteries and remains a significant monument to the spirit of religion, royalty and traditional style of Luang Prabang. Since King Setthatirath built the temple in 1560, Wat Xieng Thong had used to be a significant place for Lao kings during coronations and becomes a gathering place for annual festivals and traditional activities to take place.

Stop At: Wat Sene, 45 Kingkitsarath Rd, Luang Prabang, Laos

Continue walking the street, after Wat Sibounheuang, we have a visit at Wat Sene Souk Haram or literally "Temple of a 100 000 treasures". Afterwards we take a car to pass through the restaurant area.

Stop At: Royal Palace Museum, Haw kham, Luang Prabang 0600 Laos

The Royal Palace, which is today the national museum and built by French colonialists between 1904-09 as a residence of king family. The building itself is a blend of French beaux arts and Lao architecture. Inside displays a lovely collection of the artifacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture. (Entrance fee 30,000 kip)

Stop At: Wat Mai Suwannaphumaham, Luang Prabang Laos

Built in 1788, known for its glorious bas-relief work, golden stencilling of its sim (assembly hall), and for the ritual cleansing of the Phra Bang during Lao New Year.(Entrance fee 10,000 kip)

Stop At: Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Centre, 125/10 Ban Saylom, Luang Prabang 0600 Laos

After morning tour in the old quarter, we visit Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Centre for lunch break and seeing crafts. The center is created as a way to allow visitors to observe the impressive skills that go into Lao textiles. Here you will meet the Master Weavers and see silk weaving on your very own. You will discover the fascinating world of Lao textiles and handicrafts. After the visit you can have a stroll in the beautiful tropical garden with a nice view of the mighty Mekong River, "Silk Road Cafe" in the terrace will be the perfect place for tea and lunch while contemplating the landscape.

We spend 1.5-2 hours until about 2 pm that is scheduled time for transferring to Kuang Si Waterfalls. If you would like to visit other place, please feel free to contact us in advance or ask your guide during the tour.

Stop At: Wat Wisunarat, Luang Prabang, Laos

If time allows, we visit Wat Wisunarat. The oldest Buddhist temple dating to the 16th century, known for its large, watermelon-domed stupa. (Entrance fee 20,000 kip)

Stop At: Kuang Si Falls, Luang Prabang 06000 Laos

The Kuang Si Falls, sometimes spelled Kuang Xi or known as Tat Kuang Si Waterfalls, is a three levelled waterfall about 29 kilometres (18 mi) south of Luang Prabang.

Upon reaching falls, relax and enjoy the magnificent natural surroundings. The water tumbles down and cascades gently into several cool, clear pools where you can enjoy a refreshing swim. The adventurous may walk to the top of the falls via a steep track where stunning views are awaiting them. Kuang Si Waterfalls also is a place where a rescue center for protecting sunbears, the endangered species, is located.
