Making and tasting of traditional dairy products

You will be able to see and participate in the process of milk metamorphosis. Before your very eyes it will gradually turn from white liquid to bright yellow butter, snow white cheese and radiant green whey. You will be able to taste traditional meal of 'kastinys' spread on hot potato. Also you will taste the cottage cheese pancakes which is a very popular Lithuanian dish. Made from freshly prepared cottage cheese and topped with freshly squished berries it tastes even better

First, you will learn to separate cream from whole cow milk using a traditional hand-operated milk separator machine. Then you will make butter from it. Afterwards you will learn to make traditional cottage cheese from naturally skimmed milk. The key point of the workshop is the making of traditional spiced butter and sour-cream spread, called 'kastinys'. We will make it the traditional way - using a wooden spoon. We will taste 'kastinys' the way it is always eaten in Lithuania - with still hot unpeeled boiled potatoes, cauliflower or other vegetables. To satisfy your hunger, we will prepare very delicious cottage cheese pancakes, which are eaten with sour-cream, butter jam or freshly crushed berries. To quench your thirst we will prepare traditional acorn 'coffee' drink.
