Itinerary

Stop At: Paradesa Borneo, Kuching 93000 Malaysia

This walking locally on foot will take you along the Kuching heritage trails and going through it’s surrounding Kampongs (villages) to soak in the colorful story of charming Sarawak.  Kuching has some of the best street food in Malaysia, showcasing Malay, Chinese, and Indian influences, as well as local tribal flavours. You’ll have the opportunity to taste the most famous Sarawak street food such as Sarawak laksa (rice noodles in spicy soup), kolomee (egg noodles), tebaloi (sago biscuit), and kek lapis (a multi-layer colourful cake). If stomach space permits, make sure you also try the rich variety of our favourite local drinks and desserts!

Your foodie guide will take you to no less than eight stops in total, including a kopitiam (a traditional Malaysian-Chinese coffee shop), a hawker centre (traditional food court), street vendors, a kampong kedai café, a food trolley, and a traditional bakery. At each stop, you’ll learn a little more about Bornean food, language, and culture.

Then, we’ll board a relaxing cruise across the romantic Sarawak River on a traditional Sampan boat , it will give you a taste of how Kuchingnites commute every day across the two halves of the city! We will pass by the palace that was built on 1870 known as Astana. Once safely across, we continued walking through off-the-beaten country paths of a rural kampong and experience the favourite local snacks on the other side of the river. Pay a visit at the English 1800 era gallery named Fort Margeritha (including entrance ticket) a historic, beautifully iconic, not to forget, strategic since its main purpose was to protect old Kuching from pirates and other river-borne invasions. Any good panoramic view of Kuching’s riverfront would not be complete without the inclusion of Fort Margherita.

After the heritage walk, hop back into the sampan (traditional boat) , cruise the serene Sarawak River before strolling through hustle bustle main bazaar of Kuching old quarter to experience local life. Along the way, saviours local favorite snacks Tebaloi, originally made from the palm sugar while visiting the exhilarating souvenir shops.
