Dhammikarama Burmese Temple, built in 1803, is the sole and oldest Burmese Buddhist temple in Penang. The temple is situated directly across Thai Temple Wat Chaiyamangkalaram. At this temple, see the Standing Buddha, count the animals parts in "Pancarupa" and throw some coins in the "fountain of life" for good luck.

Penang is best known as a melting port for many ethnic groups with the most prominent trade was spices; which the early European paid dearly for these "green gold". The British first planted nutmegs in Penang and then many private planters planted spices like nutmeg, clove, cardamon, chili, and pepper, mostly on the western side of Penang Island. The Hakka Chinese came and planted durian and the Malays planted paddy and fruit trees.

Learn about about nutmeg as a spice used in our normal day cooking from the farmer themself. Take picture of "he-fruits" and "she-fruits". Sample some nutmeg juices and condiments. Support local community by bringing back some nutmeg sweetmeats, balms or oil to relieve headache and insect bites.
