Our friendly guide will meet you in the lobby of you accommodation to set off on an exciting genuine tour of the mystics of Fez. Our local guide will lead us through the maze of the city to uncover the beauties of these millennial age gates. The first gate we will cross is Bab Mahrouq Gate. It wide walls and captivating architecture will take in a time journey. This gate on the north of the old medina will lead us to one of the highlights of this tour: an impressing panoramic view of the old Medina upon the northern hill. The tower used to serve as a surveillance point over the Medina as it was always hard to keep under control. Do not forget your cameras! Then, we will visit a pottery co-operative that highlights the art of Moroccan pottery and handmade tile through workshops and witness the entire process. Then, we will continue to Bab Boujeloud, commonly known as the blue gate. It used to serve as the main entrance to the old medina. Its glittering mosaic tiles and grand archway have made it one of Morocco’s most famed gateways. Strolling beneath the famous blue gate of Bab Boujeloud will take us 1,300 years back in time as you slowly unveil the colorful guise of this beautiful old Medina. The maze-like streets will lead us to Bab Guissa on the northeastern part of the medina. This gate gazes at the ancient tombs of the previous rulers on the northeastern part of Fez.
The University of Al-Qaraouine serves as the heart of the intellectual charm of Fez. Upon its foundation in 859 AD, it serves as a gathering site of those seeking knowledge from all over the intellectual world. The UNESCO considers it as the oldest continuously operating degree-awarding university in the world. An incredible woman, Fatima al-Fihria, a Lady who had fled her country of Tunisia to the kingdom of Morocco invested all of her inherited fortunes to build it. The University features beautiful Andalucian ornamental details and its libraries have several extremely valuable documents written on gazelle parchment. Along the way, you will stop to visit the shrine of Moulay Idriss II, the patron saint and founder of the city of Fez in 789 A.D....
