Every summer in Morocco, tens of thousands of faithful make a pilgrimage to Moulay Driss Zerhoun, for lack of financial means to go to Mecca.

It is here, in Moulay Driss Zerhoun, that Idriss I, the founder of the first Islamic dynasty of Morocco, has been resting for 12 centuries. In this city, near the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, the founder of the Idrissid dynasty had found refuge in his flight from Baghdad in the 8th century.
Since his death, every summer, the Sufi brotherhoods come from all over the country attend the festivities and prayers in honor of the saint on the occasion of Moussem. The pilgrims go to this holy place because they can not go to Mecca to receive the blessing of the grandson of the prophet Mohammed. It is the pilgrimage of the poor.

The faithful approach the tomb covered with a cloth of golden silk, on which they put their hand to ask the Baraka (blessing) and the favors of Idris I.
At nightfall, the disciples of the various brotherhoods meet in private homes for mystic-religious nocturnal ceremonies imbued with divine songs and invocations.
It is here also that King Mohammed VI surrendered after his enthronement, as his father, Hassan II, did before him.
