Great Sahara Camel Trek - Erg Chigaga - 7 days depart Marrakech

Your journey from Marrakech to M'Hamid takes you across the majestic Atlas Mountains, dotted with Berber villages, to the magnificent Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, in the valley of Kasbahs. You pass Ouarzazate, location of many films, to the beautiful date Palm Groves of Agdz and Zagora.

Your Sahara Trek is led by a local nomads, born and raised in the desert, who will show you the secret spots of the Moroccan Sahara and its diverse landscapes; large sand dunes, volcanic mountains, stone desert, valleys and farmland.

On your trek you will cross wild camels, donkeys and goats, pass desert bird-life, acacia trees, tamaris and eucalyptus. You will visit nomads, and holy desert shrines and sleep under the beautiful Sahara night-sky, with its wonderful sunrise and sunsets, experiencing the simple luxuries of desert life.

Our guides are veterans of the Sahara and equipped and experienced in desert Trekking. Daily Trek time is between 4 and 5 hours per day.

Itinerary

Journey south to Morocco's largest dunes Erg Chigaga. Follow in the footsteps of nomads and camel trek across diverse deserts and panoramic vistas. Set up wild camp and eat by the open fire. Marvel the night sky and desert sunrise. Sleep in open desert before returning by 4x4.

Day 1
Depart Marrakech for M'Hamid. Dinner/overnight in Palm Grove.

Day 2
Join your camel caravan and guides early morning. Trek north past nomadic farmland, wild donkeys, and Tamaris trees to arrive at, Kraiaat Jmal, camel gathering place. Set up camp in the small dunes.

Day 3
Decamp. Trek across stoney desert to Bougarn, agricultural and world renowned star-gazing spot. Set up camp in large dunes.

Day 4
Decamp. Trek to Thirst Valley past desert lakes, mountain rocks and diverse vegetation. Set up camp between the dunes.

Day 5
Decamp. Continue to Erg Chigaga. Lunch, rest and explore the magnificent vistas. Watch the sunset over the endless, golden dunes. Set up camp at the foot of Chigaga.

Day 6
Decamp. Final trek then join 4 x 4 to visit Oasis and nomads. Arrive M'Hamid, shower, relax, explore. Farewell dinner. Overnight in Palm Grove.

Depart M'hamid to Marrakech
