The High Atlas, the greatest mountain range of North Africa, is perhaps the most beautiful and intriguing part of Morocco. It has retained a remoteness which until recently was almost complete, and contains villages where the way of life has changed.

Outsiders to the mountains are always on the move when they encounter the friendliness and openness of the villagers, as they go about their everyday tasks. Hiking in the High Atlas is one of the best possible experiences in Morocco.

start from imlil towards the south to the Berber village of Arum (Aremd) (1,843m), passing the hamlets of a souka, Targa Imoula, up and down the stark slopes, the jagged Western High Atlas peaks of the Toubkal Massif before us - Jbels Aguelzim (3,547m), Aksoual (3,847m) and the Adrar Adj (3,122m) watching us all the way.
