Guided tour of Marrakech
The monuments of the ancient city, its museum, its souks and its magnificent historic gardens:
Koutoubia Mosque:
It is one of the most impressive monuments of Marrakech. Koutoubia was built in two phases by Abdelmoumen in 1157 and 1163. The minaret of Koutoubia inspired the architects of the Giralda of Seville and the Hassan Tower of Rabat. This square tower of finely worked stone has a height of 77 meters, taking into account its lantern. An internal staircase gives access to rooms covered with cupolas as well as to its summit. The upper facades of the Koutoubia minaret are decorated with ceramic tiles forming different ornaments on each side.
Jamaâ El Fnaa Square:
More than a place, Djamâa El-Fna is a myth that must be seen, live, listen, feel. It's more than a place, it's still a sea, a huge stage theater 150 meters out of 100, between the Medina and the Koutoubia which points to the sky, where the show is transformed from morning to night ... storytellers , acrobats "oulad hmad amouss", dancers, singers, musicians from all regions of Morocco "ahouach, gnaoua ... etc", snake charmers and monkey trainers. Teenagers watch the improvised box fights closely, women make henna tattoos. Guerrabes "sellers of water", tooth pullers and charlatans also arouse great interest.
The gardens of Menara:
The Menara Garden is one of the oldest gardens in the Muslim West. The ancient authors attribute his first development to the Almohad sultan 'Abd al-Mu'min ibn' Ali (1130-1163). The Alaouite sultan Sidi Muhammad ibn 'Abdallah had built a pavilion with a belvedere which was used as a place for walks and rest, its upper terrace, we can embrace the panorama of the city and its gardens.
The Majorelle Garden
Jacques Majorelle is a painter and decorator very famous of Nancy, he was born in 1886. Invited by General Lyautey to Marrakech in 1917 to cure his tuberculosis, he fell in love with the city of Marrakech and he settled in his small pavilion several years later. Falling into oblivion after the death of Jacques Majorelle, the place is bought by Yves Saint Laurent who restored it in the early 60s. And became a Berber museum composed of Moroccan antiques.
Tombs of the Saadians
Next to the mosque of the Kasbah, one of the most visited sites in Morocco is the royal necropolis which built by Sultan Ahmed El Mansour el Dahbi "Ahmed, the winner, the walleye" who beat Portugal in the battle of the three kings in 1578 and who conquered Sudan. This richly decorated royal necropolis where Sultan Ahmed El Mansour el Dahbi, the founders and descendants of the Sadi dynasty, is buried has been open to the public since 1917.
Bahia Palace:
The Palais de la Bahia, located in Marrakech, is a masterpiece of Moroccan architecture whose construction dates back to the end of the 19th century, like most Arab-Andalusian palaces, it contains beautiful gardens and pretty patios It has 150 richly decorated rooms. The construction of the palace was undertaken by the Moroccan architect El Mekki on behalf of the grand vizier Ahmed ben Moussa said Ba Hmad (1841-1900) to house his 4 wives and 24 concubines.
