Awesome Chapters - Messum Crater Day Tour

Messum crater is quite remote, but we make the trip entertaining by visiting quite a few sites along the Skeleton Coast along the way. The crater is technically in the Damaraland, and quite dry and rocky with a stark beauty. The environment is harsh and the desert is unforgiving. Not many people visit this awesome landmark of Namibia, and you will feel like you are the first person there quite often. Highly recommended for people who like to explore and see some of the more remote places on earth.
In this area we will see some magnificent examples of the Welwitschia Mirabilis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welwitschia). We will also see some San (Bushmen) paintings while we have our lunch.

The sights we will see along the way are the Zeila shipwreck and the Cape Fur Seal colony at Cape Cross. The road surface for most of the tour is tar and very smooth salt road, but once we venture off the national roads it does become corrugated and bumpy. 

All this nature is exquisitely beautiful.... bring your camera!

Stop At: Flamingo Villas Boutique Hotel, Walvis Bay, Namibia

Stop At: Zeila Shipwreck, Hentiesbaai Namibia

The Shipwreck of the Zeila is quite scenic

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Skeleton Coast, 60km north of Henties Bay Cape Cross Seal Reserve Namibia

We stop at Cape Cross for refreshments and to view the Cape Fur Seal colony

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Messum Crater, Namib Desert, west of Brandberg, Uis Namibia

We drive into the crater, and view the huge Welwitchia along the way. We stop often to view the rock types, bushman art as well as just taking in the view
