Honey hunting tour and hiking

Among the thrilling activites Honey hunting is one that can be a real test of your endurance. If not you can see people harvesting honey from the high cliffs. The scientific research’s have proved that wild honey hunting is one of the oldest activity did by humans for survival and according to the study of rocks in different parts it has been found that honey hunting has been done since 1300 BC in Nepal.Many people , especially in western Nepal depend on honey hunting for their livelihood. They harvest the honey of the biggest bee in the world called Apis laborious. These bees make their hives on the high cliffs of the foothills and the honey hunters risk their lives to harvest the honey for survival. The honey hunters build rope ladders and baskets to get to the combs after the bees have been flushed out with smoke by lighting a fire underneath the hives.Honey harvesting usually takes place twice a year, when honey hunters get together and head into the Himalayas

We would be informing all clients about the pick up servcie and give them details about our bus number and contact person, guide details before the day we depart for the trekking. We will be using a whats app group for this tour and have everyone listed in the group and hence promote and share information.

Day 1: Arrive Kathmandu

Arrive at Kathmandu after a scenic flight over the mountains. Meet the representative of Api Adventure Eco Tours and transfer to Hotel.

Day 2: Explore the city and prepare for the trek.

You can spend this day exploring some of the World heritage sites in Kathmandu valley for some time and prepare for the trek in the afternoon.

Day 3: Drive to Besi Sahar/Khudi

We will start the trek today with high level of enthusiasm and spirit. We will drive along the Prithivi Highway till Dumre and take a rough road through the Marshyangdi River as we pass through the low-lying villages and rice fields for around 6 hours until we reach Besi Sahar. Besi Sahar, a small market area in the bank of Marshyangdi River is the Headquarter of Lamjung District.

Day 4: Trek to Ghalegaun.

After breakfast we will head towards Ghalegaun which is about 7 hours of walk from Khudi or you can have a drive to Ghale Gaun but it is not as exciting as trekking up the hill. We will walk past settlements of various communities through the villages of Sirung village, Thulo village etc. Throughout the trail you get a mesmerizing view of Annapurna and Manaslu ranges. Upon reaching the village you will have a grand welcome ceremony from the local villagers.

Day 5: Trek to Ghanapokhara.

In the morning we will hike up to Ghanapokhara for half an hour from where you can see a mesmerizing view of the Annapurna and Manaslu .In the afternoon we will walk around the village to explore things.

Day 6: Free day to observe honey hunting and reach Ghalegaun in the evening for overnight stay.

Our trek guide along with the local villagers will take you to the cliffs to observe the honey hunting and in the

Day 07: Trek to Pasgaon:

Trek from Ghalegaun to Pasgaon, which takes about 6-7 hrs. After breakfast, your trail descends to Bhujung all the way, After the Bhujung trail; you will then ascend to Pasgaon. It is long and hard day trip.

Day 08: Trek to Pakhrikot.

The trek today takes about 5-6hrs. Trail ascends gently through jungles and beautiful waterfalls. Here you can also enjoy the joyful chirpings of the birds. After lunch, the trail once again begins to descend. It is a steep descent for about half an hour. One has to ensure that you carry enough water as there is shortage of drinking water in this area. The intense heat, humidity and the direct sunlight can sometimes be unbearable.

Day 9: Trek to Thumsikot.

After a descend of 1150 meters we will take a drive to Kathmandu.

Day 10: Depart Kathmandu to reach another destination or fly back home with memories of the trek.
