Rara Lake Trek

The trek to Rara is a strenuous and off-beaten trail, appreciates the endowments of nature. The trek continues through the forest and isolated villages to high altitude lakes, perfect for bird- watcher and wilderness lovers. Rara Lake Trekking demonstrates the best beyond the harder trekking trail, where you will be gulped by the marvels of the capturing nature.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu (1350m/4429 ft. )

Stop At: Thamel, Kathmandu 44600 Nepal
Flying into Kathmandu is a memorable experience with the Himalaya spread out. Timepass is so quickly, enjoying the views of marvelous Himalayan ranges along with the world's highest peak Mount Everest while being on this flight. The flight will land at (TIA) Tribhuwan International Airport at 1350m after you will receive Nepal entry visa which can be obtained in advance or on entry and for the visa process at Kathmandu TIA, you will take around 45min, it depends on the number of people in a queue. For the Nepal entry visa information, have to visit this Nepal govt. official site Department of Immigration Nepal. After you will exit from the gate, where you will see our representative waiting for you withholding placard written with the company name. Representative welcome you by offering a holy Tibetan scarf and transfer to the hotel in private vehicle. It takes around 30min to reach at Thamel from TIA via means of transportation. The scenes of Pashupatinath, city, full of various vehicles, peoples make our journey more enjoyable and amazing, then we reach the hotel and take rest. Thamel is full of restaurants, shopping centers, and good accommodation. Trek briefing and afterward invited to a host family for welcome dinner.

Day 2: KTM Valley UNESCO Heritage sites Sightseeing Tours (1350m/4429 ft. )

Stop At: Thamel, Kathmandu 44600 Nepal
KTM Sightseeing tour will commence after breakfast on most beautiful UNESCO World Heritage sites; Swayambhu Stupa- an ancient religious architecture atop a hill in the Kathmandu Valley and popular with “Monkey Temple”, Boudha Stupa- the largest stupas in Nepal, Pashupatinath significant Shiva Temple and cremation center of KTM Valley. After the complete sightseeing tour, we return to the hotel and do preparation for the Himalayas trek.

Day 3: Scenic flight to Nepalgunj(200m/656ft. ), 50min

Stop At: Nepalgunj Airport, H 12, मनिकापुर 21900, Nepal
After having our breakfast in the hotel at Kathmandu we moved towards Tribhuvan International Airport early in the morning. It takes 50 min to Mahendra Airport in Nepalgunj 200m. Enjoying the view of Himalayan ranges while being on the flight, we reach Nepalgunj(gateway to Simikot). The weather is comparatively warmer than Ktm. Due to the nearness to India, necessities are quite cheap, esp. vegetables. Many Nepali go shopping in Rupaidiha, a little market town beyond the border. The biggest temple of Nepalgunj(Bageshwori Temple) one of the famous and most religious temples in Nepal. It dedicates to goddess Bageshwori- a Durga. Travelers can visit the temple and do arati, a mini zoo with a playground and a few animals. Visitors can also have a bicycle trip to the Rapti river and can experience the elephant safari at Bardia National Park few distances from the main market of Nepalgunj but if you are interested to participate these activities, you require extra additional days. We will have a look of more than three hundred and fifty species of birds, along with other wild animals like deer, wild boars, wild elephants, crocodiles, dolphins, blue bulls, etc. After the visit back to the hotel where our accommodation is arranged.

Day 4: Scenic flight to Jumla (2540m/8334ft. ) & trek to Chere Chaur (3055m/10023ft. ), flight 20min+5hr walk

Stop At: Jumla 21200 Nepal
A 35-minute flight from Nepalgunj will take us to Jumla, the gateway town to the Dolpo Region. At Jumla, we will explore the bazaar, visit the temple dedicated to Chandannath. The picturesque landscapes, wildlife and fascinating people and culture of this place will amaze us. From here, we depart towards the Jumla valley, ascending to Chere Chaur along the Jugad Khola. We will pass through Khalanga Bazzar and visit a small market place nearby villages and temple which leads to Chere Chaur. There is a large, grassy plateau with views back down the valley to Jumla.

Day 5: Trek Chalachaur (2980m/9777ft. ), 5-6hr walk

Stop At: Rara Lake, Rara National Park 21106 Nepal
Our treks start following the western trail and ascend through beautiful rhododendron, birch, and pine forests to the place called Jaljala Pass. The Pass offers a spectacular view of Kanjiroba Himal. We’ll cross this pass and continue our trek through a pristine trail. After a couple of hours, we’ll reach summer grazing pastures called Jaljala Chaur. We will continue along the northern tree line that crosses a small bridge over a stream. After 5-6hr of the walk, we’ll enter into the main Rara Circuit trail which descends rapidly through the forest into Jaljila Khola valley and reach Chala Chaur.

Day 6: Trek Sinja Valley (2490m/ 8169 ft. ), 4-5hr walk

Stop At: Rara Lake, Rara National Park 21106 Nepal
We follow the Jaljala Khola across terraced fields and pine forests. We will encounter a 300-year-old Hindu temple while passing through Kanaksundari. The trail to Sinja is marked with numerous stones etched with writing dating back to the Malla dynasty, as Sinja was the historical capital of the Malla Kings. The ruins of the old palace can be seen across the river. There is an interesting temple here dedicated to Bhagwati, the goddess of justice who rides atop a tiger. Walking through the terraced farms, we will reach the Sinja valley, situated on a plain on the west bank of the Sinja Khola. The valley offers numerous ancient temples and places to explore to the trekkers. An interesting thing about this valley is that culture and traditions are well preserved. In the Sinja valley, we can encounter exquisite landscapes, unique Khas language, and lovely people.

Day 7: Trek Ghorosingha (3050m/10007ft. ), 4-5hr walk

Stop At: Rara Lake, Rara National Park 21106 Nepal
We leave Sinja on an uphill trail alongside Hima River, traversing the beautiful gorge to emerge into a landscape of lush forests and meadows. From the village, we climb on a steep trail for a while followed by a relatively easy trail until Laha Village. From Laha, it is a steep climb up until Ghorosingha alongside Ghatte Khola with the stunning beautiful wide valley dotted with farmhouses and terraced fields. Passing a police checkpoint and several flour mills we reach the entrance to Rara Lake National Park. We will pass through a meandering stream through a grassy valley come across to Gorosingha.

Day 8: Trek to Rara Lake (3010m/9876ft. ), 6hr walk

Stop At: Rara Lake, Rara National Park 21106 Nepal
Ascending the Ghurchi Mara ridge from Gorosingha, we encounter an amazing panoramic view of the park. The deep blue waters of Rara Lake glisten on the northern horizon as we descend through verdant trails of birch and bamboo. Enjoying the natural scenery, we’ll enter into a forested trail and continue our trek until reaching Majhghat. After crossing Majhghat and Khatyar Khola we will continue to wooden bridge leads over Khola to the north and ascend an easy gradient to the western end headquarter of Rara National Park. Finally, after 5-6hr of the trek, we’ll reach our destination Rara Lake. Upon our arrival, we will admire the close-up view of a tranquil lake and lush vegetation of Rara National Park.

Day 9: Explore Rara Lake

Stop At: Rara Lake, Rara National Park 21106 Nepal
We'll spend the day exploring the heavenly shores of Rara, Nepal’s largest lake. A 13-kilometer circumambulation of the lake is truly a walk through one of the world’s most precious wild regions, home to diverse flora and fauna including some indigenous species of birds, fish, and animals. We can enjoy the spectacular view of the lake and the Himalayas staying on the bank of the river. We can practice our photography of nature, wild animals, birds. Local people are very friendly and pleased to have their pictures taken. On the northern-eastern bank is Rara Mahadev Temple, decorated with wood-carving of elephant, peacock, and people. On the full moon in July/August we can see the people gathering together and honor the god Thakur. Besides this, we can also experience short boating trips in the lake for an amazingly refreshing experience or visited the deserted villages of Rara and Chapra on the lake’s isolated northern shore.

Day 10: Trek to Pina (2440m/ 8006ft. ), 4-5hr walk

Stop At: Rara Lake, Rara National Park 21106 Nepal
Leaving behind beautiful pristine Rara Lake we’ll trek towards Pina over the bridge flowing Khatyar Khola. We will cross the bridge and continue around the lake to a trail to the south west and climb. Our trail is easy and we walk on a relatively straight path until Gamgadhi which is the headquarters of the remote Mugu District of Nepal. From Gamgadhi, we descend through a pine cedar forest to Jhyari Khola and after the short uphill climb to grinding mills leads to Pina village.

Day 11: Trek to Bumra (2850m/9351ft. ), 6-7hr walk

Stop At: Rara Lake, Rara National Park 21106 Nepal
From Pina, we descend and cross the Ghurchi Lagna pass at an altitude of 3480m. We will see colorful prayer flags, beautiful Karnali river from the top of the pass. The trail follows a stream through the forest and rocky spurs and reaches the pass. From the top of the pass, we can have a beautiful view of Kanjiroba Himal. After enjoying the view, we’ll continue our trek down to Bulbule. From Bulbule, we’ll move towards the south and continue through the small settlement around Chautha. We continue our descent and pass through a few villages before reaching Burma. After 6-7hr of the walk, we’ll reach a beautiful village in Burma. This village is also called as Nauru Ghat.

Day 12: Trek to Jumla (2540m/8334ft. ), 6-7hr walk

Stop At: Jumla 21200 Nepal
After having breakfast, we will continue our trek to Jumla crossing two suspension bridges over the Hima River and walk downhill. The trail climbs an unrelenting gradient through a birch forest to some pictures. After walking for a few hours, we'll get to a hot spring where we can ease our aching body with a dip and cross Danphe Lagna pass at 3804m. The scenery is excellent upon our gradual descent, culminating in a challenging stretch before our final stop in Jumla. We’ll continue our trek and reach Chere Chaur, we follow the same trail we took a few days back and reach Jumla.

Day 13: Scenic flight to Jumla-Nepalgunj-Kathmandu

Stop At: Thamel, Kathmandu 44600 Nepal
After having breakfast in the morning, we will take the flight back to Nepalgunj and fly again to Kathmandu on the very same day. Our representative shall take you to your hotel after your arrival in Kathmandu. You can spend the rest of the by relaxing or shopping for gifts and souvenirs.
