Small-Group Day Tour of Kathmandu
Spend a full-day exploring Kathmandu, with a guided tour covering ancient monuments, temples, and monasteries of the Kathmandu Valley. See the iconic Syambhunath Stupa, visit Bauddhanath Stupa (thought to house the remains of Kassapa Buddha), and make stops at Pashupatinath temple and the vibrant Patan Durbar Square. Tour includes round-transportation provided by your driver and guide in a vehicle, and pickup and drop-off at your hotel in Thamel. Small-group tour is limited to 15 people.
Meet your driver and guide around 8:30am at your hotel in Thamel to begin your full-day exploration of Kathmandu. Your driver will bring you to four of the most notable sights in Kathmandu so you can explore these iconic places.
1. Pasupatinath Temple
Begin with a trip to what is considered one of the holiest temples in Hinduism. A UNESCO Heritage site, Pasupatinath is situated on the side of a lush green natural forest. Built in pagoda style, the temple features a gilded roof and richly carved silver doors. See the Holy River Bagmati as it flows alongside the temple. The temple is frequently visited on Mondays; and you'll find crowds of devotees on the special occasion of Shivaratri in February and March. You may also visit the Guheswori Temple which lies near by the Pashupati Nath Temple.
2. Syambhunath
Next, head to Syambhunath Temple, the popular feature and most recognizable symbol of Nepal. The temple lies on the top of a hill west of the city and overlooks the Kathmandu Valley below. The 2000 years old Buddhist shrine provides a breathtaking vantage point to see the valley. While you're here, make a stop at the Saraswati (goddess of Study) Temple. Along the way, perhaps even catch a glimpse of some native monkeys.
3. Patan Durbar Square
Then drive to Lalitpur, just outside Kathmandu, to see the iconic Patan Durbar Square with its complex of temples. See the palace of the Malla Dynasty that dominates the east side of the square. 'The city of fine arts,' Patan boasts remarkable monuments including Krishna Temple, Banglamukhi Temple, Patan Museum, and many more.
4. Boudhanath Stupa
Heading back toward Kathmandu, make a stop at the Boudhanath Stupa located on the northeastern outskirts of the city. A UNESCO World heritage site since 1979, Boudhanath is one of the most popular tourist sites in the Kathmandu area and one of the largest stupas in Nepal. The Stupa is thought to house the remains of Kassapa Buddha. See over 50 Tibetan Gompas (or monasteries) that were also constructed around Boudhanath.
Tour ends with drop-off at your hotel in Thamel at approximately 4:30pm.
