Keukenhof Gardens, Tulip Fields & Windmill Tour

This small group (8 person maximum) tour takes you to the gardens early and bright. From there we take you to real local places off the tourist track. The pancake lunch is on the edge of a nature reserve and frequented only by locals. The fields up North of Amsterdam are set in lovely Dutch countryside in the Unesco World Heritage site of the Beemster Polder. The windmill we visit is a stunning, almost 400 year old water pumping mill and we can explore right up inside it to the very top where all the working parts are. This is a really special day out

Stop At: Keukenhof, Stationsweg 166A, 2161 AM Lisse The Netherlands

We drive you to Keukenhof Gardens (about 40 minutes) bright and early. Once there we will give a short history of the plance and then arm you with a map of a suggested walking route to see what's looking best and give you until noon to explore on your own. That gives a little less than 3 hours to explore the gardens.

After the gardens, we stop for a pancake lunch at a lovely hidden away local pancake restaurant that truly is 'off the beaten path'. Besides enjoying pancakes, we take this opportunity to mark thiings on maps for you to do in Amsterdam and tell you the story of Tulip Mania over lunch. A pancake and a drink costs about 15 euros, it is best to bring this in cash ass it makes splittiing the bill easier. The lunch stop takes about an hour.

Then we drive about 40 minutes north where there are extensive tulip fieds that we can get access to from local farmers to take photos of you in the fields. These fields are away from the busy fields down near Keukenhof Gardens. This stop is not at the visitors centre as the locator says, it is in fields on private farms in the Beemster Polder.

We don't offer tours for the full Keiukenhof Gardens season as we like to make sure that there are flower fields in bloom and this doesn't happen all season. When they start and how long they last depends on how hot or cold the spring is. In the first couple of weeks of April, if the tulips are not out, then the daffoldils and hyacinths will be and will visit those fields. These fields are found in the south, nearer Keukenhof Gardens.

We guide you through this almost 400 year old lovely water-pumping windmill. We explain the water management of the area and can go innside the windmill, right up to thte very top.

The drive back to Amsterdam from the fields and windmil takes about 35 minutes.

The typical transpoprt provided is an airconditioned 8 seat Mercedes Vito Tourer. If there are only a few bookings however, we switch this to a mid-range car.
