Itinerary

Day 1: Auckland - Hobbiton to Rotorua

Stop At: Hobbiton Movie Set, 501 Buckland Road Matamata, Hinuera 3472 New Zealand
Hotel pickups begin from 6:30am. Start your day traveling from Auckland to Hobbiton through the Waikato region, where you will pass through dairy farms and the Hauraki Plains. On arrival at Hobbiton you will be guided through the picturesque 1,250 acre sheep farm with spectacular views across to the Kaimai Ranges. You will be escorted through the site while listening to fascinating details of how the Hobbiton Movie set was created.

The Hobbit holes, Green Dragon Inn, the Mill and other structures were created for The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films. They can be viewed and you will see how this beautiful piece of Waikato farmland was transformed into The Shire from Middle-Earth, with the finale being a complimentary drink at the Green Dragon Inn.

After this tour you will travel to Rotorua (approximately 55 minutes) to Te Puia where you will have lunch. New this year is a Buffet lunch featuring traditional Maori and typical New Zealand food in the new Restaurant at Te Puia. Te Puia spans 70 hectares within the historic Te Whakarewarewa Valley, on the edge of Rotorua. It is home to the Pohutu geyser, mud pools, hot springs, silica formations, a Kiwi bird sanctuary, and the national schools of wood carving, weaving, stone, and bone carving. They have shared these treasures with visitors for 170 years and proudly continue that legacy today.

After lunch, explore Rotorua, visiting the lake front, the government gardens, and other attractions before being dropped at your accommodation.

This evening you will be taken to Mitai Village and will experience a Maori Cultural show and traditional Hangi Dinner.

Day 2: Waiotapu - Waitomo Caves and return to Auckland

Stop At: Wai-O-Tapu Thermal Wonderland, 201 Waiotapu Loop Road Rd 3, Rotorua 3073 New Zealand
Breakfast is included and available from 7am. At 9am you will be collected for your tour to Waiotapu Thermal Wonderland. After this you will have about an hour to have lunch (own expense).

Stop At: Waitomo Glowworm Caves, 39 Waitomo Village Road, Waitomo Caves 3943 New Zealand
From Rotorua, travel to the Waitomo Caves, famous for its thousands of glow-worms. Walk into the caves, then travel a short distance on the underground river in a small boat, passing beneath a veil of glittering glow-worms and learning more about the caves' historical and geological significance.

After this, you will be taken back to Auckland where your tour ends.
