Cycle some of the best trails in Hawke's Bay on this self-guided tour.
You choose the length and time! Ride a 40km (25 mile) loop or a 16km (9 mile) loop or something in between! Leaving from the historic port area of Ahuriri, your ride take you through a great variety of scenery including the Napier township, along the spectacular coastline, fun river trails, lagoon farmland and of course, wineries.
Allow between 3-5 hours for your ride.

Stop At: Marine Parade, Napier New Zealand

Departing the port village of Ahuriri you will cycle around the port to the Napier CBD, a world renowned Art Deco treasure. Enjoy the unique facades of these beautiful buildings before continuing south, following Marine Parade with spectacular views across the sea to Cape Kidnappers.

Stop At: The Silky Oak Chocolate Company, 1131 Links Road Hawkes Bay, Napier 4183 New Zealand

After travelling approximately 12kms you turn inland at Awatoto and follow the trail along the Tutaekuri River stopbank to the suburb of Taradale. The countryside is very typical of the Hawke’s Bay as you overlook orchards, vineyards and market gardens whilst sharing the trail with wandering cows.
On arrival in Taradale there’s the option to visit the Silky Oaks Chocolate Factory, the historic Otatara Maori Pa site and the fine wineries of Church Rd and the Mission Estate, New Zealand’s oldest winery.

Visit the world class Church Road Winery and join in on one of their unique winery experiences/tastings. Starting in 1897, the winemakers at Church Road have been at the forefront of the Hawke’s Bay winemaking region. They create exceptional wines.

Visit the oldest winery in New Zealand, the Mission Estate in Taradale and enjoy the old architecture, beautiful garden area and famous wines.

Stop At: Hawke's Bay Trails, Napier 4144 New Zealand

Joining the cycle trail after leaving the wineries you meander for approx. 10kms through the Ahuriri Estuary a low-lying wetlands area, home to many species of wading birds and other wildlife. As you cycle along it is sobering to reflect that prior to the 1931 earthquake this area was all a vast tidal inlet before the land lifted 1.8m in the mighty shake. You then make your way past fishing boats and old port warehouses back to our base in Ahuriri.
