Our drive to Rotorua, where Te Puia is located takes you through kiwi fruit and avocado orchards, past dairy farms and Maori archeological sites, through pine plantations and native rain forest alongside stunning lakes set in volcanic craters to the geothermal valley of 'Te whakarewarewa tanga o'te ope taua a wahiao', the home of the Southern Hemispheres biggest geyser, Pohutu.

From there a drive across the volcanic plateau down into the rich diary farming area of the Waikato and the location of the movie set, Hobbiton. Then leaving the Shire behind, return hrough the rolling countryside and over the 'Misty Mountains' to your ship in Tauranga.

Stop At: Te Puia, Hemo Road, Rotorua New Zealand

This is the site of the largest geyser in the Southern Hemisphere, Pohutu. Set in in the geotheremal valley of Te Whakarewarea with boiling pools and bubbling mud, and erupting about once every hour, it's not to be missed.

Pass By: Te Puke, Te Puke, Bay of Plenty Region, North Island

This area is where Kiwi Fruit were first cultivated as a commercial crop and where the name originates from. As you drive through you will see the well known 'green' variety and the newer 'Gold' fruit. With hundreds of orchards, it truly is the 'Kiwi Fruit Capital of the World'.

Pass By: Lake Rotoiti, Rotorua New Zealand

As you drive through pine forests climbing towards the volcanic area of Rotorua, you drive along side a number of beautiful lakes including Lake Rotoiti

Stop At: Hobbiton Movie Set, 501 Buckland Road Matamata, Hinuera 3472 New Zealand

The movie set is spectacular, and a 'must see' for all LOR and Hoobit fans. Set deep in the countryside on a working sheep and beaf farm, this is the location of the Shire. Now jointly owned by Peter Jackosn, who directed all the movies, the movie company and the farm owners, you are transported to the Shire as your two hour guided tour takes you through the Dell, to Bag End and the Grren Dragon Inn. Hobbiton is the number one visitor destination in New Zealand for a good reason.
