This is an ultimately nomadic adventure where you follow the reindeer with a Sami family when they migrate their reindeer from winter pastures to summer pastures in northern Norway. You sleep in a tent and travel on a snowmobile. On this once-in-a-lifetime trip, you can immersive yourself in rich and fascinating Sami reindeer herding culture and experience the beauty and pure nature of the Arctic wilderness. The Sami people are the only indigenous people living in the European Union. On this memorable migration journey, you will live like a Sami reindeer herder.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival day

Stop At: Alta, Alta, Alta Municipality, Finnmark, Northern Norway
The Sami host family picks up guests from Alta by car. Then transportation is changed to snowmobiles. Guests can sit in a sled that is pulled by a snowmobile. You will arrive at the beautiful Tundra in Northern Norway where the reindeer stock is migrating at that moment.

Day 2: Join the reindeer migration!

Stop At: Finnmark, Finnmark, Northern Norway
From the second day you join the Sami family as they migrate with their reindeer. For this adventure, we don't have an itinerary as everything happens in nature's speed. The Sami reindeer spring migration is a unique tradition in which reindeer move from winter pastures to summer pastures. The Sami and the guests joining the migration move on snowmobiles while following the reindeer. You sit on a sled pulled by a snowmobile. Be prepaid for the bumpy journey!

Day 3: Immerse yourself in rich Sami reindeer herding culture

Stop At: Finnmark, Finnmark, Northern Norway
This is a slow down experience. There is a saying that the Sami walk with the reindeer. The reindeer are semi-domesticated migratory animals that Sami people follow. Sometimes the reindeer stock can stop in one place for a few days and other times they can move faster. You need to be flexible to take the things as they happen as the reindeer rule the migration.

Day 4: Try your skills on reindeer herding

Stop At: Finnmark, Finnmark, Northern Norway
On the migration, you sleep around an open fire with your Sami host family in a tent which is set up in different locations while migrating further taking equipment, tents, and food to the next location. Your Sami host family serve you traditional Sami food. You have reindeer meat in different forms, fish, bread, potatoes, and Arctic berries. You can try traditional Sami skiing and ice-fishing when the reindeer herding duties allow it.

Day 5: Live like a Sami reindeer herder in Arctic wilderness

Stop At: Finnmark, Finnmark, Northern Norway
This is the last full day to enjoy the Arctic wilderness with your Sami family and their reindeer.

Day 6: Back to Alta

Stop At: Finnmark, Finnmark, Northern Norway
After breakfast, you start your journey back to Alta where you arrive after midday. Say goodbye to your Sami family and have a safe trip back home.
