SNOWSHOE OVERNIGHT TRIP – PATCHELL HUT

Let us show you some of our hidden gems during this 2 day winter hiking trip in the Sunnmøre Alps. Come explore the snowy mountains, soak in the views of the surrounding peaks and spend the night warming up by the fire in a historic mountain hut. 

 

Day 1 – 8 km and 400 vertical meters

You will meet up with your guide at our activity center in Stranda on the first morning. There, you will receive a trip briefing and all the necessary equipment for your trip. After a short drive, you’ll start hiking from Engeset, up the Engesetelva river and into the upper valley, surrounded by towering mountains. The main goal of the first day, is to get familiarized with your equipment and with the Sunnmøre alps.

After a few hours of snowshoeing, you will reach Patchell hut. Named after a famous British explorer and mountaineer, it sits at the foot of Mt Slogen, Queen of the Sunnmøre alps. While your guide starts a fire and cooks dinner, you will have the chance to sit back and enjoy the last rays of the afternoon sun over the silent giants all around you.

Day 2 – 9 km and 100 vertical meters

After a cozy night and delicious breakfast, you will start moving towards the village of Urke. Your path today will bring you right under Mt Smørskredtindane and Mt Slogen. After the long way down back to the fjord, you’ll deserve a hot beverage. Why not enjoy it at the historic Hotel Union Øye, right next to the Hjørundfjord, where you’ll end your trip.
