The day's last stop is the Maras salt mines to see local people mining salt in the traditional way and learn about salt’s importance to the Peruvian economy from your guide. We'll continue to the salt mines or Salineras of Maras. Since pre-Inca times, salt has been obtained in Maras by evaporating salty water from a local subterranean stream. The highly salty water emerges at a spring, a natural outlet of the underground stream.
