Choquequirao Trek 4 Days Huaynas Expeditions

Being the land route the only way to get to this citadel is the Choquequirao trek, which can be done at least in 4 days. The route has a distance of 60 km and takes place in one of the deepest canyons in the world, the Apurímac River, the trails are narrow and zigzag and the road has a wonderful view of majestic snow and creepy precipices.

Its name in Quechua means Cradle of Gold, located in Cusco, they are archaeological remains conformed by buildings and terraces distributed in different levels on a platform of approximately 150 square meters.

Choquequirao was a religious and cultural center of the region and it is presumed that the citadel was used as a nexus and control point of the accesses of the Jungle to the seat of the Empire, Cusco.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Capuliyoc – Playa Rosalinas.

Stop At: Capuliyoc, Sendero a Choquequirao, 03110, Peru
Pick up from resort in Cusco at 5:00 am to have 4 hour driving to Capuliyuc 2,900m / 9,512 ft, the starting of the trail. At this area we’ll meet up our muleteers, and horses, and then we’ll get prepared for the trek.

We’ll begin with our expedition, hiking for about three hours on a downhill trail to get the lunch spot known as Chikiska placed at 1,900 m / 6,213 ft, with amazing views of the snowcapped mountains of the Vilcabamba range, and the magnificent Apurimac canyon.

At Chikiska, we’ll experience our simply organized fresh lunch. After having lunch, we’ll hike for 1 extra hour to get the first camp site known as La Playa Rosalina 1,500m / 4,920 ft, in which we’ll spend the first night. In the night we have tea time, in consequence dinner.

Day 2: Playa Rosalina – Maranpata – Choquequirao Park Camp.

Stop At: Choquequirao Archaeological Park, 08710, Peru
Very early in the morning, we’ll wake up with a fantastic coca tea, and we’ll have a nutritious breakfast, after that, we’ll ascend for about 5 hours on the steep switchback trail to get the village known as Maranpata, where we will have our lunch. From this lunch spot, we’ll see a section of mystical Choquequirao in a further direction.

After having lunch, we’ll walk for 2 extra hours to get the second campsite, located in the park of Choquequirao 2,950 m / 9,676 ft. This afternoon, we’ll go to discover a section of Choquequirao’s spiritual site, the place we’ll appreciate an incredible sunset, we’ll then come again to our campsite. All foods included.

Day 3: Choquequirao – Playa Rosalinas.

Stop At: Ruinas de Choquequirao, Cachora Peru
Early in the morning we can see the sun rise over the ruins and throw a amazing mild over the site. After the breakfast we will go to the amazing ruins of Choquequirao with its mystical atmosphere, its brilliant surroundings and the unique llama-walls which have been currently discovered in 2006.

With some luck we can additionally spot the exquisite condor.

From Choquequirao the route will take us again to Playa Rosalinas, the place we will overstay the night. Day 4: Playa Rosalinas – Capuliyoc – Cusco.

It’s our last trekking day, after enjoying a nutritious breakfast, we’ll continue trekking up the highland valley with some timber alongside the trail and awesome views, this last section of the path is a gentle trail for 3 hours to attain Tambobamba 2,320 m / 7,610 ft, a vicinity the place we’ll stop our adventure.

Once we arrive at this place, we’ll have a farewell time to our muleteers, Chef and different members who were part of our group for 5 days.
