The ornaments in the historic center are built with a white volcanic stone called Sillar, which is obtained from the Chachani volcano that can be seen from the city and that is why Arequipa is known as the white city.

Yanahuara is one of the oldest districts of Arequipa and it's located next to the river Chili, 10 minutes walking from the historical center. Yanahuara has one of the best viewpoints where you can see the city but also the 3 closest volcanoes to the city which are: Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu.
