Alcobaça Mogo River Valley
Route made by a Nature Guide that will make the ecological and geological framing of the path.
Itinerary
Tapered and winding, the Mogo Valley is a place where dense and relatively untouched vegetation reigns. The strawberry tree, the holm oak and the oak are the predominant trees in this place, where the riverbed and the inherent humidity give it the mystical aura of a green forest. The fauna is also diverse and you can also see foxes, genets and various bird species. On the other hand, the walls of the valley of Mogo reveal limestone formations of karst morphology, having been made, in the late nineteenth century, several archaeological campaigns in some of its caves. When climbing the valley, the landscape that stands out is the magnificent slope of Serra dos Candeeiros, right next door.
This is a mostly flat but uneven and slippery rail if wet. It is cool in summer, but green predominates year-round with mossy logs and stones.
