Porto da Cruz, the parish of Porto da Cruz is located 36 km from Funchal, on the north coast of the island. Porto da Cruz is a civil parish since 1677, and in 1996 it became town.

The mountains surrounding the town cast an amphitheater facing the sea. From a geological point of view, Porto da Cruz is a true exhibition of splendid formations such as the consecutive layers of volcanic ash or basalt formations. Connected for long to the exploitation of land, Porto da Cruz has a largely rural and agricultural landscape. The devices found here witness the dynamics that sugar added to the local economy.
