But, once this tour is about Caves, we’ll take you to Gruta do Natal (Christmas Cave), a lava tube of great geological interest; to Furnas do Enxofre, which are some sulphur caverns, where you can watch the earth breathing, as well as the beautiful natural landscape around it.
As the best is always saved to the end, it is time to visit Algar do Carvão Natural Monument, without a doubt, the ex-libris of Terceira Island.

Stop At: Gruta do Natal, Altares, Angra do Heroismo, Terceira 9700-169 Portugal

It is a very extensive geological formation, resulting from the formation of a lava tube inside the island, comprised in the Natural Forest Reserve of the Serra de Santa Bárbara and Mistérios Negros. It has ramifications in the form of different tunnels, formed by the lava flows in different directions. One of its curiosities is the fact that it is located largely beneath a lagoon, the Black Lagoon.

Stop At: Piscinas Naturais Biscoitos, Portugal

The Biscoitos area has at least two points of attraction: the vineyards that grow in small walled spaces and the natural pools. The whole area is beautiful, little saturated and deserves a visit with calm. Don't forget the swimsuit

Stop At: Furnas do Enxofre, Porto Judeu, Terceira Portugal

They constitute a fumarolic field, that is, in an area that comprises several exits of aggressive volcanic gases, at several temperatures, some quite high (about 95º C at the surface and about 130º C at half a meter deep). Such degassing consists essentially of carbon dioxide (c.95%), hydrogen sulphide (c.3%), sulfur gas, hydrogen, nitrogen, methane and the like, in very low proportions.

Stop At: Algar do Carvao, Estrada Algar Do Carvao Center of Island, Terceira Portugal

Discovered in Caldeira Guilherme Moniz, a former dormant volcano, in this Algar visitors can descend to about 100 meters deep, and observe stalactites unique in the world due to their silicate characteristics, and an underground lagoon with crystalline waters. It is classified as Regional Natural Monument.
