Obidos, a stunning whitewashed town dating back to immemorial times. Today, this gem of a fortified town remains lovingly intact, with its narrow passageways and brightly colored bougainvillea spilling from the balconies above.
Join me for a journey into history and hear the secrets hidden behind the ancient castle walls. Marvel at the views from the wall walk or keep your feet on the ground and do some handicraft shopping instead.
From here you can choose two options: have lunch in Ericeira and visit Mafra, or, visit a local winery and go for a wine tasting.
Ericeira remains an authentic fishing village where restaurants serve the catch of the day. Relax in the main square or look over the sea wall.
Mafra may be a sleepy town but it boasts a grand marble monastery, from the 18th century, with over 4500 doors and windows. Its construction inspired Jose Saramago (Nobel prize of literature) to write “Baltasar and Blimunda”.
