Stop At: National Palace of Queluz, Largo do Palacio, Queluz 2745-191 Portugal

The millennial history of Sintra Town Hall begins during Muslim rule in the Iberian Peninsula. Already mentioned in the 11th century, the early Moorish palace - owned by the Portuguese Crown after the conquest of Lisbon by D. Afonso Henriques (1147), first King of Portugal - was first intervened in 1281, during the reign of D. Dinis. New constructive bodies are added over time under the reigns of King Dinis, King John I and King Manuel I, maintaining their silhouette since the mid-16th century.
The arrangement of the spaces in height, adapting to the terrain; the intimate organization of the open-air inner courtyards, where you can hear the running water; its windows with outdated arches; and the tile coverings of rich geometric patterns show the Moorish connection of the craftsmen who built and embellished the Palace.

Historical records point to the existence of a fort in the Roca Cape in the 17th century that played an important role in guarding the entrance of Lisbon, forming a defensive line along the coast, especially during the Peninsular Wars. Currently there are only traces, apart from the lighthouse which remains an important point for navigation.

Stop At: Centro Historico de Cascais, Cascais Portugal

The territory that today forms the municipality of Cascais was very early, it is thought that since the Lower Paleolithic, the scene of human occupation, there are also extensive testimonies of the Roman and Arab presence in subsequent centuries. In the second half of the 12th century, Cascais was a small fishing and farming village. Thanks to its beautiful bay, the village was, from an early age, a busy fishing port. The movement of boats in the bay was accentuated in the early phase of the Discoveries, and it was there that Nicolau Coelho, the first captain of Vasco da Gama's fleet to arrive from India, landed. On November 15th, 1514, D. Manuel I granted Cascais the Foral de Vila, the first regulating text of municipal life, until that day ruled by the Foral de Sintra. Cascais was thus a fishing village, later a summer beach of the Portuguese court, a refugee sanctuary and active espionage center during World War II and, from the first decade of the twentieth century, a tourist point of national and international renown.
